In an interview with The New York Times co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment Tom Rothman praised the film for being “different and original”, with mention of a follow-up, and James McAvoy recent said he’s shared story ideas with director Matthew Vaughn.

Now, while promoting the DVD and Blu-ray release of X-Men: First Class in the UK, Jason Flemyng (Azazel) has revealed the sequel is currently in the writing stage.

From Digital Spy:

“There was a benchmark that they had to hit box office-wise before they could start writing the next one, which they’ve started. We’ll just see how the DVD goes and then fingers crossed I’ll be bright red again by next summer.”

Flemyng also admitted that he hopes a potential sequel will give him the opportunity to work more with Michael Fassbender, who plays villain Magento.

“I am so in his gang [for the sequel]. There’s one shot at the end of the film [with Magneto] and I was like, ‘Please let me be in the shot!’ And there I was. If there is a sequel, I have to be there.”

There’s still a few ‘ifs’ in there as 20th Century Fox haven’t made any official announcements, but if they have started writing hopefully Matthew Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman are involved.

X-Men: First Class made $350 million worldwide at the box office, and another $45 million on DVD/Blu-ray in the US. Adding international DVD/Blu-ray sales and TV rights etc. the film will end up making around $450 million+ in total, which is enough for sequel to move forward. The cast are moving onto big things (Fassbender could end up with an Oscar nomination this year, Jennifer Lawrence has The Hunger Games, and Nicholas Hoult will be seen in Jack the Giant Killer) so the next film has the potential to make even more of an impact at the box office.

Read similar posts to Jason Flemyng says X-Men: First Class sequel is being written on Filmonic

Three new X-Men: First Class images

Movie News

James McAvoy

January Jones

Jason Flemyng

Jennifer Lawrence

Lucas Till

Matthew Vaughn

Michael Fassbender

Nicholas Hoult

Rose Byrne

X-Men: First Class

Zoe Kravitz

Hero Complex got their hands on three new images from X-Men: First Class, which we will be calling our first official look following the leaking of that authorized image yesterday. Vaughn talks about the challenge of getting the movie ready for June 3rd, and isn’t bothered by competition from Thor, Green Lantern and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Interestingly Singer says he would still like to direct an X-Men movie in the future (he was original set to direct X-Men: First Class but scheduling conflicts with Jack the Giant Killer caused him to move into a producing role instead), so if Vaughn is busy with Kick-Ass 2 Singer could potentially step in to direct the sequel.

Read similar posts to Three new X-Men: First Class images on Filmonic

First look at X-Men: First Class

Movie News

James McAvoy

January Jones

Jason Flemyng

Jennifer Lawrence

Lucas Till

Matthew Vaughn

Michael Fassbender

Nicholas Hoult

Rose Byrne

X-Men: First Class

Zoe Kravitz

Update: Apparently the image is not authorized and got out somehow. Flemyng revealed the news to Empire at Movie-Con III in London this weekend and will play Azazel, a teleporting mutant who is the father of Nightcrawler (played by Alan Cumming in X2).

Jennifer Lawrence has already been cast as Mystique and X-Men fans will know that she is Nightcrawler’s mother, so we could be seeing Nightcrawler’s origins in First Class (if you know what I mean).

Here’s what Jason Flemyng had to say to Empire on the role:

“Matthew showed me my costume just the other day. Now I swore I’d never be in heavy make-up again, but this role is going to involve it. But at least they said, “Don’t worry, we’ll add the tail in post”. I am Azazel, and I can teleport by waving my arms [gestures like a cross between a flamenco dancer anda Bollywood star].”

We confirmed after Flemyng left the stage that he will be red, and not Nightcrawler blue or anything like that (Vaughn is clearly trusting that people can figure it out from the tail and pointed ears).

While 2nd unit filming has already begun, shooting on X-Men: First Class will get fully underway over the upcoming weeks. No word yet on who will play Cyclops, Jean and Storm or whether they are actually in it (would Fox really make an X-Men film without them and Wolverine?), although they could be keeping things under-wraps.

Read similar posts to Jason Flemyng joins X-Men: First Class on Filmonic

Clash of the Titans starts filming. The final ‘I will be seeing this regardless’ moment came when Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes came on-board as Zeus and Hades. The good news today is that filming will begin shortly, and below are more details on the film:

From BusinessWire:

In “Clash of the Titans,” the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Leading the international cast is Australian actor Sam Worthington as Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, king of the gods. Worthington will next be seen in this summer’s “Terminator Salvation.” Liam Neeson takes on the role of the mighty Zeus, and Ralph Fiennes plays the role of Hades, god of the underworld, who feeds on human fear. Rounding out the cast is Gemma Arterton (“Quantum of Solace”) as Io, Perseus’ mysterious spiritual guide throughout his journey; Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale”) as Draco, who takes up his sword to join Perseus’ quest; Jason Flemyng (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) as Acrisius, a one-time king-turned-hideous beast; and Alexa Davalos (“Defiance”) as Andromeda, a princess doomed to lose her life if Perseus does not succeed.

Based on the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross, “Clash of the Titans” is directed by Louis Leterrier from a screenplay by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi (“Aeon Flux”), story by Travis Beacham (“Dog Days of Summer”) and Hay & Manfredi. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk, who produced the drama “We Are Marshall” for Warner Bros. Pictures, and Kevin De La Noy, who last served as an executive producer on the studio’s blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Academy Award® winner Richard D. Zanuck (“Driving Miss Daisy”), who most recently collaborated with Warner Bros. on the comedy hit “Yes Man,” and Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and William Fay, who have teamed with the studio on such hits as “The Dark Knight” and “300.”

The behind-the-scenes team creating this mythical spectacle includes director of photography Peter Menzies, Jr. (“The Incredible Hulk”); production designer Martin Laing (“Terminator Salvation”); editor Vincent Tabaillon (“The Incredible Hulk”); Academy Award®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy,” “The Dark Knight”); Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (“The Dark Knight”); Oscar®-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O’Sullivan (“The Dark Knight,” “Saving Private Ryan”); Academy Award®-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould (“Gladiator”); and Academy Award®-winning makeup and hair designer Jenny Shircore (“Elizabeth”).

“Clash of the Titans” will begin filming in studios outside London and will later shoot in various locations in Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands, predominantly on Tenerife, off the coast of Africa. Further aerial work is set to take place in the diverse locales of Ethiopia and Iceland.

Read similar posts to Clash of the Titans starts filming.
