No reason has been given, but June 2012 is looking rather busy with Snow White and the Huntsman, Prometheus, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Brave and G.I. Joe: Retaliation all hitting within weeks of each other, so the move may have been to avoid Giant Killer getting swamped.

You can watch the recently released trailer below:

The studio has also moved the Tom Cruise musical Rock Of Ages into Killer’s old slot (June 15), and have taken Arthur & Lancelot off their release schedule entirely having previously been aiming for March 15, 2013. The reimagining of the King Arthur legend, starring Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman, has been having budget issues and the studio has asked director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) to make cuts. THR say the movie isn’t dead, but Dobkin and the studio are trying to get around or below $100m from $130m.

Read similar posts to Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer pushed back to 2013 at Filmonic

Trailer for Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer

Movie Trailers

Bill Nighy

Bryan Singer

Ewan McGregor

Jack the Giant Killer

Nicholas Hoult

Stanley Tucci

Warner Bros. has unveiled our first look at Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer in the form of a teaser trailer. Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) leads the film as a young farmer called Jack who has to rescue a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) who is kidnapped by giants.

From the trailer it’s clear Singer has stuck with the main beats from the Jack and the Beanstalk folktale people are familiar with, but with added elements. There are some epic looking battles teased and great landscape shots, but nothing to get too excited about at the moment.

Watch below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jack the Giant Killer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Ian McShane will play King Brahmwell, “who is none too thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy.” Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones) is playing a villain who is “an advisor to the king with designs on usurping power” while Bill Nighy will play a two-headed giant called Fallon. Nighy will play the big head while voice actor John Kassir will play the small one. Hoult also appeared in A Single Man and in the TV show Skins (the UK version).

A little snippet of plot from Deadline, who have the exclusive:

Jack the Giant Killer is a scary revisionist take on the Jack and the Beanstalk mythology and Hoult will play a farmer who leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess. Bill Nighy, Stanley Tucci and John Kassir were recently cast.

I’m a huge fan of both Nighy and Tucci, and can’t wait to see them. I’m not so familiar with Hoult though, so can’t really speak out on him. This “dark fairytale” thing is repeating itself a lot recently (various adaptations of Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, etc. are floating about, and none of them sound great to be honest), but I hope Singer’s has some more originality about it. The first two X-Men movies and the intelligence of The Usual Suspects give me some hope.

After X-Men: First Class, Hoult will be seen in Fury Road, the Mad Max prequel which will film next year, also starring Thomas Hardy and Charlize Theron.

Read similar posts to Nicholas Hoult is Jack the Giant Killer at Filmonic

Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy join Jack the Giant Killer

Movie News

Bill Nighy

Bryan Singer

Jack the Giant Killer

Stanley Tucci

Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer is gearing up for filming and now has its first official cast members. The camera’s incredibly compact size and extraordinary resolution are ideal for the 3D format.

But more importantly Jack the Giant Killer is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The EPIC’s extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.

Singer has always used Newton Thomas Sigel as his cinematographer so it will give him something else to work with.

In the movie a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hope of rescuing her. Kick-Ass actor Aaron Johnson and Nicholas Hoult who plays Beast in X-Men: First Class are the top contenders to play the farmer.

Filming on Jack the Giant Killer was originally set to begin this July, but they soon realized more time was needed to figure out the visual effects (as there will be a lot of them) so Warner Bros. pushed filming back to early 2011. In the meantime Singer had his regular writer Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, The Wolverine) re-work the script.

Read similar posts to Bryan Singer going natural for Jack the Giant Killer at Filmonic
