In a new interview, George Lucas said that “it’s more than a strong possibility there will be a fifth Indiana Jones,” [and] says that “he and director Steven Spielberg have left the door open for a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

Interesting! What would Indy & Co. be up to this fifth time around?

“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” Lucas said. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

“And it’s not like Harrison is even old,” he said, backpedaling fast. “I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me.”

So it looks like young LaBeouf could be taking over for a generation of younger fans!

Is it just me, or does anyone else wish that they were Shia right now? Not only does he have Steven Spielberg in his back pocket, but now George Lucas, too! And, with Transformers 2 set to begin filming in June, he couldn’t be riding a higher wave!

Props, LaBeouf! Just make sure to start away from those convenient stores and everything will BE OKAY.

IESB have been sent four new images of the upcoming Indiana Jones movie. Some random scooper sent them in via an Imageshack link, so they may not be online for long.

One image that caught my eye is the one you see below, of Shia LaBeouf giving Cate Blanchett a fist in the face. If this were real life I would pounce on Shia, thwack him in the face, and tell him not to put his filthy hands on an Oscar winning actress ever again! But as this is from a movie I can live with it, although I will feel a small amount of rage when I finally see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in May. (I somehow get the feeling that the character Cate Blanchett is playing may deserve it)

The MTV Movies Blog got their hands on a brand new image from Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The image shows Harrison Ford, Shia LeBoeuf, and Ray Winstone entering what looks like a temple. I have no idea which, all I know is that it could do with a good clean.

Wow! Sounds like every other Indy movie ever made! But I guess that’s being too harsh. I’m sure the Indy camp has the plot under lock and key, and wouldn’t let a comic book company reveal their story.

Vanity Fair have a huge five page article about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The article includes a couple of interviews from Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, as well as some rather cool new images. One that stands out is our first glimpse of Cate Blanchett in costume. At first I thought it was Uma Thurman, as I have never seen Cate look quite so…evil. She is playing a villain in the movie, which is rare from Blanchett. Take a look.

USA Today spoke to Frank Marshall, producer of the Indiana Jones series, and, my oh my, did he drop some hints.

Marshall says that Ray Winstone is playing a rival archaeologist who is a bit on the unethical side, and then goes on to give us the name of the character Cate Blanchett is playing (which is Agent Spalko).

And then he drops this little golden nugget on us:

“The theory is they are shaped by higher powers or alien powers or came from another world, or an ancient Mayan civilization had the powers.”

He’s talking about none other than the Crystal Skulls themselves. Though this has been rumored on the interwebs for quite some time, it was still nice of him to go ahead and confirm it for us.

I can’t wait for this movie.

Coming in from the “blink and you’ll miss them” department, a bunch of new Indiana Jones photos popped up on the web. No word on whether or not these pictures are part of the crop that were stolen a few months back, however they don’t reveal very much.

Regardless, it’s still cool to see Ford wearing the hat and holding the whip! Enjoy!
