Halle Berry takes on sharks

According to Variety Halle Berry is advanced talks to star in action-thriller Dark Tide, which will see her strapping on her wetsuit and taking on Great White sharks. The film will be directed by Clark Johnson, director of S.W.A.T and The Sentinel and is expected to start filming later this year in South Africa with a budget of $20 million.

Project, penned by Amy Sorlie, concerns a diving instructor who returns to the deep after a near-fatal incident with a Great White shark.
“Twilight” producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will shepherd “Dark” via their Temple Hill banner.

Halle Berry has been off our screens for far too long, which is a result of her having offspring and starring in a few indie films. She needs a big comeback movie but I don’t think this shark movie will be it. There’s no major studio behind it and it will probably only get a limited release, so it’ll be even longer before we see Berry again in a big way. Damn the world!

Halle Berry in talks for The Surrogate

Halle Berry, who recently won the Decade of Hotness Award at Spike TV’s 2009 Guys Choice Awards, is in talks to join The Surrogate according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, not to be confused with Surrogates staring Bruce Willis, is based on a 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel and centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers) was hired to direct last week, and Ralph Winter (X-Men trilogy) is producing.

Halle Berry is in talks to star in “The Surrogate” for 20th Century Fox. The move follows Paul Verhoeven’s boarding to develop and direct the thriller, which Ralph Winter is producing along with Deborah Giarratana, Robin Guthrie and Susana Zepeda.
Berry is interested in the part and Fox is keen to have her do it, though official dealmaking has yet to begin. Berry would play the wife who wants to have the child.

This would be Berry’s return to the big screen after having time off to reproduce. After winning the Worst Actress Razzi for Catwoman Berry has been trying to return to her Oscar roots with dramas such as Things We Lost in the Fire. The problem with that is smaller films don’t get big releases or attention (unless they get Oscars) so it feels like Halle has been gone for years. Personally i’d like her to make a few fun films like Swordfish, or maybe hitch a ride on another action franchise (non-superhero).

Halle Berry to play jewel thief

Halle Berry has signed up to star in Who Is Doris Payne?, a film about an international jewel thief whose career spanned five decades.

From Empire:

Doris Payne is not only a real-life figure (and, indeed, a real live figure, at 77), but a very unusual thief. For roughly five decades, Payne committed a series of diamond robberies at some of the world’s most glamourous jewellery stores, including Tiffany’s of New York, Cartier of Monte Carlo and Ratners of Romford.
Payne’s m.o. was simple – she would go in to a store, bamboozle salespeople with smooth talk, ask to see some rings and then simply walk out with an expensive ring on her finger. She was arrested in 2005, and served a two-year sentence, which would appear to be the end of her crime career.

As the film will span 50 years we could be seeing some Benjamin Button type effects, however if the budget isn’t $150 million it will probably just be good make-up.

No word on whether this will be before or after Halle shaves her head for Nappily Ever After, however it seems she is lining up some meaty roles.

Halle Berry going bald for next film

Last night I watched V for Vendetta and one of the most memorable things about it was the fact that Natalie Portman had no hair for half of the movie. The actual hair removing process was on screen for less than 5 seconds, however it was significant nonetheless. Now Halle Berry is getting in on the act. For her next movie, Nappily Ever After, she is going to have her lovely locks sheered off like a sheep.

“I am shaving it off,” she says. “I know. Here comes the controversy, but I have to do it for the role and it will grow back – I hope.”

Where as Natalie Portman’s character had her hair removed whilst being interrogated and tortured, Halle Berry’s character will be doing it willingly to find some ‘inner beauty’ type stuff.

Speaking of beauty, in Halle’s next film she plays a hooker and goes topless, just like she did in Swordfish.

We saw a shot of a young Storm in the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer, and now the actress who played the grown up Storm in the X-trilogy has been snapped on the set of her next movie. In Frankie and Alice Halle Berry plays a young woman with multiple personality disorder who struggles to remain her true self and not give in to her racist alter-personality. Halle does in fact play both Frankie and Alice. From the looks of things Halle plays a hooker, although the movie is set in the 70’s so I’m not 100% sure.

Wolverine Trailer Update – Young Storm!? – X-MenOrigins.com Online!

Those people in the US who decided to see The Day the Earth Stood Still may have already witnessed the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer. However, for those who don’t want to see the Keanu Reeves flick or aren’t in the US, we will have to wait until the 15th before it appears online over at Myspace Trailer Park.

A few people who have already seen the trailer have kindly written a few descriptions of what they saw. One thing that sticks out is the appearance of a young Storm. Storm is the character Halle Berry played in the trilogy, so it’s cool that they decided to put a little cameo in there. Apparently we will get a cameo from a young Scott Summers (Cyclops) in the movie too.

Halle Berry vs Charlize Theron

Having watched the recently released Hancock I came to a random conclusion that Halle Berry and Charlize Theron have a lot in common. Some are rather big things such as movie roles and their personal lives, however some are rather small. For example, they are both born in August.

Careers

1. Both actresses have won an Oscar for Best Actress. Halle won hers in 2001 for her role in Monsters Ball, and Charlize Theron won hers in 2004 for her role in Monster. If the bold didn’t make it clear enough, both actresses won their Oscars for staring in movies with ‘Monster’ in the title.

2. After their Oscar wins both actresses stared in female lead action films. Halle Berry stared in Catwoman that currently has 10% on Rotten Tomatoes and Charlize Theron stared in Aeon Flux which is on 11%. Both films were bashed by critics. Coincidently, both movies were the actresses 4th project after their Oscar winning film.

Both actresses also ended up in hospital during accidents on the sets of their rubbish films. Halle collided with a piece of stage equipment during a chase scene and Charlize suffering a fall while filming a series of back handsprings which required her to wear a neck collar for a month.

3. (Hancock spoilers) Both actresses play superheroes with the power to manipulate weather, but more specifically tornadoes. Halle Berry played Storm in the X-Men trilogy, and in X-Men 2 created tornadoes to escape fighter jets.

In Hancock Charlize Theron’s character creates tornadoes and lightning for a big special effects battle with Hancock.

Personal Lives

1. Both actresses had abusive fathers. Halle’s left when she was four years old, then returned some years later but not for long. When Charlize was 15 her father attacked her mother, and her mother shot and killed him in self-defence.

As a result, both actresses have campaigned against domestic violence. In South Africa, Charlize filmed TV commercials urging no tolerance for rape or domestic violence and Halle recently held a celebrity golf tournament with all money raised going to a domestic violence charity.

2. Both actresses are determined not to get married. After two divorces Halle has gone off the idea, dispite just having a baby with her new partner. Charlize said she refuses to get married to Stuart Townsend until same-sex couples are able to have their marriages recognized.

Conclusion
They have a lot in common and should team up for a film. I suggest Brokeback Mountain 2 so they can get more Oscars and redeem themselves for Catwoman and Aeon Flux. Alternatively, they could do a Hancock/X-Men spin off involving their characters. Two good looking ladies firing lightning bolts at each other will surely be a box office smash as well as highly arousing.

Halle Berry Has A Multiple Personality Disorder!

Well not in real life anyway, but in her next role Halle Berry will be playing a woman struggling with multiple personality disorder. Her character is torn between her real self and a racist white alter-ego who is angry at inhabiting the body of a mixed-race woman. The film is called Frankie and Alice, however no production start date has been set yet. This can go two ways. The first is that we watch Halle Berry argue with herself for an hour and thirty minutes, and the movie unintentionally becomes a comedy, or it can be a serious psychological drama that confronts the issue of racism. I hope for Halle’s sake it is the latter.

This is Halle Berry’s first role after giving birth last month, so it seems she is going for a small indie film rather than a huge studio blockbuster. She has a baby to feed now!

Halle Berry wants MORE Catwoman?

Even though she won a Razzie for Worst Actress, the critics hated it and not that many people liked it, Halle is still considering another whip at Catwoman. While at the premier for her latest film, Things We Lost in the Fire, she spoke about the discussions she had been having with director Susanne Bier.

‘She’d do a lot better job of it than the last time round,’

I probably agree with that statement, I mean Pitof hasn’t done anything to prove he is a good director. The fact that 15+ writers all had their input on the script didn’t improve things either. Susanne Bier also had a say.

‘It’s true we would like to work together again and I did suggest Catwoman to her. It would be very different, more feminist, but I think we could pull it off, so don’t count it out.’

I don’t really know what to make of this because on one hand people are saying Halle Berry is finally returning to ‘real acting’ after winning her Oscar in 2002. After the win she has been doing highly paid ‘popcorn’ movies like X-Men, Die Another Day and Catwoman. Shouldn’t she be looking forward to bigger and better projects, rather than going back to one of her worst movies? Maybe she doesn’t like mistakes and wants to go back and try to amend things? Who knows? But Bier is a great director, award winning in fact, so if things were to work out the movie might not be so bad. Well in all honesty it wouldn’t take much to improve on the 2002 effort.

If Christopher Nolan isn’t planning on having Catwoman in the Batman Trilogy then Berry having a second attempt probably wont do any harm, if things were done properly. However, I do think Nolan would do the character justice she deserves.

Halle Berry’s ‘Nefertiti’ Should be ‘Epic’!

When you achieve something special by using a certain method, you usually want to stick to that method and re-use it at some point. The ’something special’ was Halle Berry winning an Oscar for her performance in Monster’s Ball, and the ‘method’ was director Marc Foster. And repeating that method is what they intend to do. Since their success in 2001, Halle has completed the X-Men Trilogy and starred in a few misses, but hopefully her upcoming ‘Things We Lost In The Fire’ will be better. Foster on the other hand, has directed films such as Finding Neverland and is currently working on the next Bond film.

While on her promoting rounds, Halle spoke about a project that will reunite them both, Nefertiti. They have been trying to get the historical epic off the ground for years, but Halle said that it is still moving forward.

There’s battle scenes and love,” she said. “[It’s about] a woman coming into her own. So it should have that epic quality to it.” Berry exclaimed to MTV News,” adding that it will have “lots of action because it’s all about that era in time when Nerfititi was ruling her nation.”

I do not doubt Fosters directing for one second, and even though we have seen a few historical epics recently, (Troy, Alexander, The Kingdom of Heaven, King Arthur), I think one based on a woman, and especially one now after all of the ‘Women In Hollywood’ discussion, would be great viewing. Especially if Halle Berry gets to wear skimpy outfits, like in The Flintstones, we can just take her more seriously this time.
