Johns at some point during Friday’s panel said about this summer’s Green Lantern film that “obviously, you want it to be as big as Titanic.” But he added: “I hope that the character gets another film, and it will be live-action again – I guarantee.”

Johns also said the director’s cut DVD includes extra scenes that add to Hal Jodran’s story and character, something many critics thought was missing in the released film.

With a budget of around $300 million ($200m production costs + $100m marketing) a box office take of $219 million worldwide is no way to start a new franchise, but Warner Bros. no longer have Harry Potter so they may stick with Green Lantern in the hope of a Justice League movie further down the line. I can’t see why they’d make a sequel for any other reason than that, as the interest really isn’t there for another solo Lantern outing.

Read similar posts to Geoff Johns hoping for Green Lantern sequel at Filmonic

Superheroes at the box office (Part 10)

Movie News

Box Office

Captain America: The First Avenger

Green Lantern

Iron Man

Megamind

Super

Superhero

The Avengers

The Green Hornet

Thor

X-Men: First Class

76 superhero movies have been mentioned one way or another over the course of our ‘Superheroes at the box office’ feature. The conclusion is here, with the last 8 superhero flicks that have been released on the big screen in the last 33 years. To get an idea just how much this sub-genre has grown over the years, just in 2011 we’ve had no less then six entries. Masked (or not) crusaders, vigilantes fighting for a cause, be it good or bad, for one last time, after the break.

We start with Iron Man 2, the sequel to the 2008 hit with the same name (minus the 2) and part of The Avengers. People expected something at least as good as the original so disappointment was high on its toes, lurking right around the corner. Unfortunately, while a fun movie, Iron Man 2 failed to match the sheer awesomeness of the first one. Despite less favorable critical and fan reception, Iron Man 2 manage to gross a mighty $312.4 million in North America, just shy of the $318.4 million made by Iron Man. Worldwide things were looking better with $623.9 million for the sequel versus $585.1 million for the original. Right now Iron Man 3 is expected to open in May 2013, but with Shane Black directing instead of Jon Favreau.

Continuing 2010, Megamind follows in November. You know how there are always trends in Hollywood, like one year we might get a bunch of penguin movies or maybe animated fish movies, you know what I mean. Well 2010 was the year of villains with a kind heart, misunderstood if you will. First it was Despicable Me, a story where one villain fights to regain the title of best super-villain in the world. The reason I’ve not included Despicable Me here is simple, there are no superheroes in that movie and Gru isn’t fighting to save the world or a city, he just wants the respect of his mother. Now Megamind, the titular character in the movie with the same name, is much more then just a villain or super-villain. Now I’m not going to spoil anything for you guys but let me just say that this movie has at least one superhero in it. Megamind grossed $148.4 million in North America and $321.8 million worldwide. Having cost $130 million to make, DreamWorks more then likely didn’t lose money on it but don’t expect a sequel out of this one.

And we are finally in 2011 and The Green Hornet is our starting point. This 75 year old hero sure took his time trying to get to the big screen. Starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou (playing Kato, a role Bruce Lee had in the original 1966 TV series). The Green Hornet almost made $100 million in North America and $227.8 million worldwide. Unfortunately for this fun yet flawed movie, that gross probably won’t be enough for Sony to green light a sequel since it cost $120 million to make..

A movie probably not many heard about is Super and yes, it came out this year, specifically on April 1st, a fitting release date some could say. Now this is a hard R, very independent superhero movie that I would only recommend to the most hardcore, probably those that liked Kick-Ass but also thought that it didn’t go as far as it could have. Let me just say this, Super is insane, if you don’t believe me just watch it and you’ll agree with me afterwards. Again, be warned, it makes Kick-Ass look like a PG-13 movie (so keep the kiddies away). Obviously, this is as far away from commercial as you can get and it only got a limited release in theaters. With that in mind, the $0.3 million it made in North America is not as surprising.

Next up is another movie leading up to The Avengers, Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh. This was probably the hardest avenger to bring to the big screen so a lot of people expected it to fail, well Thor didn’t, quite the contrary. First of all, it was actually a good movie and while it had its flaws, Thor managed to deliver the goods in the end. It is right now the highest grossing superhero movie of the year with $181 million in North America and $448.5 million worldwide. The adventures of the God of Thunder will continue in The Avengers next year and in July 2013 in Thor 2.

X-Men: First Class opened a month later and it is the second X-Men spin-off, following the success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Unlike that movie, First Class was very well received by both fans and critics alike, a return to the quality standard set by the first two X-Men movies. If only box office results would have been as impressive as the reviews. With a production cost of $160 million, X-Men: First Class only made $146.3 million in North America and $352.5 million worldwide. A sequel could happen but it will come down to DVD and Blu-Ray sales. So if you guys want a First Class 2, go out and buy as many copies of X-Men: First Class as you can, I know I will.

Two weeks later Warner gave us Green Lantern, the long anticipated Ryan Reynolds (starring) and Martin Campbell (directed) DC Comics superhero. They had the money ($200 million no less), they had time, talent, you name it, yet something happened along the line, something big enough to turn Green Lantern into a bust. When I say bust, I don’t mean only in regard to box office success, it just wasn’t a particularly good movie, ok, maybe not as bad as people give it credit. Having grossed $116.4 million in North America and $219.7 million worldwide (barely matching the production budget, let alone doubling it), one would think this series was gone yet Warner are actually still talking about a sequel, strange times we live in.

And now we are up to the last superhero movie, Captain America: The First Avenger. Like the title suggests, this is another avenger movie, the last avenger movie, a fitting spot since he was also the first avenger in the comics. Anyway, Captain was a very long time coming and now that it’s finally here I must say, me like it, me like it very much. They made it a period piece and we got a great take on the origin story of Captain America. It wasn’t campy and at the same time not too serious since it is after all, a superhero movie. With a gross of $173.4 milion in North America and $348.4 million worldwide (and still counting) Captain America, just like Thor and Iron Man, will return next year in The Avengers. The only thing that bothers me about this movie is the way it ends, there’s not a lot of place to make a sequel similar to it and I’d really like a second Captain America set in World War II.

After celebrating superhero movies of the past, it’s time to take a brief look into the future and let me tell you this, there’s never been a better time for fans of this sub-genre. Next year Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is coming to haunt us. A few months later, the ultimate superhero mash-up, The Avengers, will be set to generate plenty of nerdgasms. Then there’s The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises, both in July. Tony Stark is back in Iron Man 3 in 2013 and Man of Steel should mark the return of Superman that same year. As mentioned above, 2013 also has Thor 2 and probably The Wolverine. Now these are just some of the bigger titles, there’s a lot more coming and who knows, maybe in a year or two you might read an 11th part of Superheroes at the box office, until then, keep superheroes alive and, just for kicks, list your favorite hero of all time in the comments. I was a Batman dude for a long time but once I discovered Spider-Man, I never went back.

Read similar posts to Superheroes at the box office (Part 10) at Filmonic

The Smurfs stay on top around the world

Movie News

Box Office

Captain America: The First Avenger

Cars 2

Green Lantern

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II

International Box Office

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

The Inbetweeners Movie

The Smurfs

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

There was a bit of deja vu last weekend at the international box office with The Smurfs and Rise of the Planet of the Apes leading the pack. What took me by surprise was UK’s The Inbetweeners Movie ranking 3rd with an enormous opening weekend that I’ll disclose further down, after the break.

The Smurfs made $35.2 million for an impressive $211.4 million, soon to become the all time highest grossing live-action-mixed-with-CGI-characters kids movie. Right now Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel still ranks first internationally with $223.5 million but at the rate those blue devils make money, it should become 2nd very soon. With $330.9 million worldwide (International plus North America), The Smurfs is not about to catch up to The Squeakquel’s 443.1 million anytime soon.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took in $29.6 million for a 2nd place finish and $122.7 million so far. Thanks to the $259.7 million worldwide collection and the fact that this is still going strong with plenty markets left to go, Caesar’s Apes are definitely coming back for another round of human butt kicking, hopefully soonish.

In 3rd place we got The Inbetweeners Movie, a UK flick based on a very popular TV show it seems, otherwise there’s no way it could have managed $21.5 million. Without Harry Potter or James Bond in it, that’s about as big as you can hope to get a movie to open in the UK. From what I’ve seen in a trailer, it looks sort of like a British American Pie. Looking forward to seeing the numbers for it this weekend.

Speaking of the devil, 4th is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $14.9 million for a tiny and awfully disappointing $901 million internationally. That’s like what, the highest ever if we were to live in James Cameronless world. Worldwide things are even worse, I mean only $1.26 billion?

Leaving sarcasm to the side (since Potter is obviously a box office Godzilla), we find Green Lantern in 5th place with $11.9 million for a lackluster $78.6 million and $194.2 million worldwide. Wow, this movie has almost matched its budget. Great job Warner on failing again at finding the next big property that could have fueled your upcoming Potterless years.

Captain America: The First Avenger is 6th place with $11.4 million for $150.1 million internationally. For such a US centric hero, Captain is having an impressive run with $315.8 million worldwide and still going strong.

Cars 2 past the $500 million mark worldwide while Transformers: Dark of the Moon‘s $749.6 million international gross passed Lord of the Rings: Return of the King‘s $742 million, thus taking 5th place on that all time ranking. Can’t help but be extremely impressed by how much the international box office exploded this summer with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($798.5M), Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($749.6M) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($901M), all three in the all time international top 5 and like I mentioned above, in a James Cameronless world, they would be on top.

Read similar posts to The Smurfs stay on top around the world at Filmonic

Warner Bros. sets October 14th release for Green Lantern on DVD and Blu-ray

DVD Release Date

Blu-ray

DVD

Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds

Warner Bros. has set the Green Lantern Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download release date for October 14th, 2011. In 2001 Planet of the Apes, the Tim Burton remake, made $362.2 million worldwide so Rise of the Planet of the Apes should, in theory, based on how well it has done so far, finish ahead of that (unadjusted for inflation).

3rd place belongs to former four time consecutive leader, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $29.3 million for an epic $857.8 million internationally. With this being the final installment and also presented in 3D, everyone expected over $1 billion worldwide but so far Mr. Potter has made over $1.2 billion and for lack of better words, that’s really really impressive. So, with Harry Potter at the finish line and only Batman left, how long do you guys think it will take Warner Bros. to start working on a remake, aye?

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was 4th with $14.6 million and $731.2 million internationally. This is now $300 million above Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen so even without the help of 3D, this would have still been a big leap forward for the series. Thanks to $1,078 million worldwide, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is now 5th on the all time highest grossing list, more then any fan could have hoped for.

Green Lantern was 5th with an unimpressive $14.1 million in 29 markets for $61.6 million internationally and $176.6 million worldwide. How the hell are they doing a sequel for this when it cost $200 million to make and it hasn’t even matched that, let alone double it (what Warner would need in order to make a few bucks on this flick).

Cars 2 is 6th with $13.1 million and $290 million internationally (476.3 million worldwide, passing the original Cars) while Captain America: The First Avenger made $12.2 million for $128.3 million internationally and $286.2 million worldwide. With some still a few big markets left to go, the Captain is performing better then expected around the world for a movie titled Captain America.

Finally Super 8 was 8th with $9.8 million and $94.5 million internationally for $220 million worldwide, a very impressive take for a movie that cost only $50 million to make.

Read similar posts to The Smurfs take over the world at Filmonic

Transformers continues box office march (Jul. 8-10)

Movie News

Bad Teacher

Bridesmaids

Cars 2

Green Lantern

Horrible Bosses

Kung Fu Panda 2

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Super 8

The Hangover Part II

Transformers

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

X-Men: First Class

Zookeeper

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was first again both in North America and around the world. With over $679 million in just 2 weeks, this is now the fastest worldwide grosser ever and well on track to finish north of $1 billion. As for the new entries, Horrible Bosses performed above average for an R-rated comedy while Zookeeper was below expectations. More about this and others after the break.

With $47.1 million in North America, Transformers: Dark of the Moon had a series high 2nd weekend, besting both Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($42.3 million) and Transformers ($37 million). What this means is Dark of the Moon ($273M in 14 days) is slowly gaining ground on Revenge of the Fallen ($305.5M after 14 days) while leaving Transformers ($228.9M after 14 days) further behind. Get this, first one made $4.7 million on a similar 2nd week Tuesday, 4 years ago, Revenge made $5.7 million 2 years ago while Dark of the Moon grossed 6 million on Tuesday, 2 days ago. Based on all of the above Transformers: Dark of the Moon is headed for $360-370 million in North America.

Outside NA the autobots are more popular then ever with numbers that make the first two movies look like under-performers. In just 2 weeks Dark of the Moon made more than what Transformers generated in its entire run ($390.4 million) and almost as much as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $406.2 million versus $434.1 million (again, entire run). With these kind of numbers, nothing short of a miracle (read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 eating away a huge chunk of business this weekend) could clip the wings of this box office behemoth before it can reach 1 billion worldwide.

Back to North America where Horrible Bosses was 2nd with $28.3 million, in line with other similarly successful R-rated comedies (that are not sequels, so no The Hangover Part II) released this summer (Bridesmaids opened with $26.2 million while Bad Teacher made $31.6 million). $100 million is what Horrible Bosses should aim for after this good start. On the other end Zookeeper, a PG family comedy with talking animals, was below previous Kevin James efforts of the past years (Paul Blart: Mall Cop opened with $40.5 million) but above this year’s The Dilemma ($17.8 million). Not to mention this was aiming for Night at the Museum kind of success and is failing horribly at that. About $65-70 million is as high as this could go.

Other notable movies:

Cars 2 is at $153.2 million in North America and $274.8 million worldwide, still on track to finish with $650-700 million worldwide;

Bad Teacher made $81.2 million in NA and $127 million worldwide;

Super 8 $119.2M ($170.3M);

Green Lantern $110.6M ($143.9M);

Bridesmaids $158.9M ($207.7M);

X-Men: First Class $142.5M ($343.4M);

Kung Fu Panda 2 $159.3M ($568.2M);

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $236.5M ($1,021.9M), will pass Alice in Wonderland ($1,024.3M) this week to become the 6th highest grossing movie ever worldwide, unadjusted for inflation;

The Hangover Part II $251.1M ($310.4M).

Read similar posts to Transformers continues box office march (Jul. 8-10) at Filmonic

Transformers rules over long 4th of July weekend (Jul. 1-4)

Movie News

Bad Teacher

Box Office

Box Office Results

Bridesmaids

Cars

Cars 2

Green Lantern

Larry Crowne

Monte Carlo

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Super 8

The Hangover Part II

Transformers

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

X-Men

X-Men: First Class

As expected Transformers: Dark of the Moon had no problem dominating the box office over the long Independence Day weekend setting a new record for the time slot (Spider-Man 2 with $88.2 million was the previous holder). In total the 3rd robot extravaganza made $180.6 million in 6 days, more then the $155.4 million made by Transformers in 2007 but less then Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $214.9 million in 2009. This week is going to be crucial for the final tally of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, depending on weekdays and the coming weekend, we will know with a certain degree of accuracy how much it will gross when all is said and done in North America. At the moment I’m going to say it should finish somewhere between Transformers ($319.2 million) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($402.1 million).

Cars 2 is another big hit that (as the title suggests) features, well, cars. With $26.2 million over the 3-day weekend this had by far the biggest 2nd weekend drop for a Pixar movie. After 11 days Cars 2 has grossed $122.5 million, neck a neck with the original Cars that had $121.5 million at the same point. A week ago it had $6 million over Cars, now it is down to $1 million and when all will be said and done, it might not even make it to $200 million, a far cry from the $244 million of the original.

Bad Teacher was another movie that took a bigger dive then expected, down 54.1% for $14.5 million and 3rd place. With $62.7 million after 11 days, I’m starting to have doubts regarding the possibility of this finishing above $100 million in North America.

Larry Crowne, the Tom Hanks directed, written and starred romantic comedy, also featuring Julia Roberts, made only $13 million over the 3-day weekend and another $3 million on Monday. Definitely a lot less then the 20+ expected from the two once huge stars.

Super 8 rounded out the top 5 with $7.9 million for a total of $110 million after 25 days. If it keeps going at this rate, this should finish with over $130 million in North America, more then enough considering the $50 million budget.

The last opener of the weekend was Monte Carlo and that made $7.4 million for 6th while Green Lantern kept plummeting, down 63.6% for $6.5 million and $103.6 million in 18 days. This will stop around $115 million and I can’t really imagine how Warner must feel right now after spending $200 million on it.

Other noteworthy movies:

Bridesmaids finally became the highest grossing Judd Apatow movie ever with $153.7 million in 53 days;

X-Men: First Class will reach $140 million sometime today or early tomorrow;

The Hangover Part II is now at $248.6 million while Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is at $234.1 million, both should be passed by Transformers: Dark of the Moon before the end of the week;

Read similar posts to Transformers rules over long 4th of July weekend (Jul. 1-4) at Filmonic

Transformers: Dark of the Moon set to dominate the box office

Movie News

Bad Teacher

Box Office

Box Office Predictions

Cars 2

Green Lantern

Larry Crowne

Monte Carlo

Super 8

Transformers

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Transformers is back in theaters in full swing for yet another bombastic 4th of July. Despite the release of two other movies this weekend, Larry Crowne and Monte Carlo, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has the field all to itself. It’s only competition comes from the numbers made by the previous entries.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the 9th movie of famous director explosionaire Michael Bay and has already started blowing up 4013 theaters across North America. So what explosive new features will this 3rd (and last, at least for Bay) autobots adventure bring to the table? Well, 3D would be the biggest thing here then there’s the running time, 10 minutes longer then Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen while at the same time coming up $5 million cheaper ($195 compared to $200 million).

No matter what critics say (36% on Rotten Tomatoes) I have to give credit to Michael Bay, he made a bigger, louder and longer sequel, not to mention he shot it in 3D, all without going over budget but actually under budget. Probably the best financial decision was giving Megan Fox the old “you’re fired”, that must have easily saved them a fortune in tanning lotions. But this is all besides the point, box office is the key word here and Transformers movies have done exceedingly well on that front for the past 4 years with the first one packing $319.2 million while the much less lauded second one making $402.1 million. So with such a strong legacy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a shoe-in for lots and lots of green.

Anyway, the movie opened on Tuesday and has made (if we go by Deadline’s estimates) over $63 million in 3 days. Over the weekend I’m expecting around $90-95 million for what should look like over 155 million over the first 6 days. 4th of July will probably come in with another strong $30+ million for $185-190 million in 7 days. That is more then the $150 million Paramount were expecting but significantly less then what Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made back in 2009.

Cars 2 is looking at a good hold, $38 million for a solid 2nd place while newcomer Larry Crowne, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, has a shot at more then $20 million over the weekend. Last time these two met was for Charlie Wilson’s War, a very different movie that made $66.6 million after opening with $9 million during 2007′s Christmas. That was an R-rated war drama while this is a PG-13 romantic comedy so it is safe to assume it should do better business, at least opening weekend.

Bad Teacher is still looking hot with $19 million for 4th place while Super 8 will battle Green Lantern for 5th place, each with $8 million or so.

The last new wide release of the week is Monte Carlo, a PG-13 romantic comedy starring Selena Gomez that is probably going to gross $6-7 million for 7th place.

Next week Kevin James is the Zookeeper while Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis try to murder their Horrible Bosses.

Read similar posts to Transformers: Dark of the Moon set to dominate the box office at Filmonic

Cars 2 raced to the top spot (Jun. 24-26)

Movie News

Bad Teacher

Box Office

Box Office Results

Cars 2

Green Lantern

Mr. Popper's Penguins

Super 8

Like the title says, Cars 2 took the number 1 spot over the weekend without any real trouble. While nothing came even close to the leader, the Cameron Diaz comedy managed to surprised a lot by opening much higher then anticipated solidifying 2011 once again as the summer of R-rated comedies. More about Cars 2 and Bad Teacher after the break.

Cars 2 is the 12th big screen release of Pixar and with a first weekend of $66.1 million it ranks 5th among other studio openings. About 5 years ago, Cars debuted to good reviews (but lower then any other Pixar flick before, 74% on Rotten Tomatoes) and an opening weekend of $60.1 million (about $72 million today) going as high as $244 million in North America and $461.9 million worldwide, making it the 9th highest grossing Pixar movie around the world. Ok, so Cars wasn’t the best reviewed nor one of the highest grossing flicks of the studio, then why make a sequel for this and not something like The Incredibles? One word, MERCHANDISING, Cars has generated billions in sold merchandise and Cars 2 is here just so Disney can sell even more merchandise. They might as well give free tickets to everyone because theaters is not where Disney will make the big bucks with this property. So with that out of the way, Cars 2 is a necessary evil so that Pixar can make other original stuff in the coming years, like Brave. I just hope Toy Story 4 (if it happens) won’t be like Cars 2.

Bad Teacher was 2nd with $31.6 million and for Cameron Diaz that is actually really good. Looking back at her carer, outside of the Shrek series, Charlie’s Angels and The Green Hornet, this is her highest opening yet. I’ve read predictions that started at $10 million for this flick but I haven’t seen anyone dare say Bad Teacher would open above $30 million because, for an R-rated comedy, it is bloody hard. Bridesmaids, probably the biggest surprise of the summer and another R-rated comedy, has made $147 million so far and only opened with $26 million. Bad Teacher won’t make that much but it will definitely gross over $100 million so that being said, Cameron Diaz seems to still has something in her (as long as she is in a decent movie that works in tandem with her qualities).

In 3rd place Green Lantern took a mighty dive, down 66.1% and I can’t believe Warner Bros. are still thinking about going forward with a sequel. I mean don’t take this the wrong way, I actually enjoyed Green Lantern and would like a sequel (with a different everything, except Ryan Reynolds, he can stay) but a movie like this costs a lot of money, money that I don’t think Warner can make from this series. So, $18 million over the weekend and $91.1 million in 11 days makes Green Lantern a genuine box office flop unfortunately.

Super 8 was 4th with $12 million for $96.6 million in 18 days. Now I bet this movie will finish with more green then the Green Lantern, all on a quarter of that flick’s budget.

Finally Mr. Popper’s Penguins was 5th with $10.1 million and $40.6 million so far. Legs ain’t looking to great on this one so I think it will stop somewhere around $70 million with a very slight chance at $80 million.

Read similar posts to Cars 2 raced to the top spot (Jun. 24-26) at Filmonic

Warner Bros. still moving forward with Green Lantern sequel?

Movie News

Green Lantern

Green Lantern 2

Ryan Reynolds

With reports of a budget around $300 million ($200m production costs + $100m marketing) the $53 million opening last week for Green Lantern was seen as a disappointment. It made less than X-Men: First Class despite being in 3D, and following a 66% drop at the US box office this weekend it is currently performing less than The Incredible Hulk did at the same stage three years ago.

Despite this, and the poor reviews, Warner Bros. is still said to be moving forward with a Green Lantern sequel.

From THR:

Warner Bros. is already planning a sequel to Ryan Reynolds’ superhero pic Green Lantern, despite the film’s soft performance at the box office.

Sources say Warners still believes in the franchise, even if the studio is “somewhat disappointed” with Green Lantern’s result.

Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said the movie is settling in, pointing out that fanboy pics often see a significant drop-off in their second weekends.

If the $250 – $300 million budget reports are correct Green Lantern is never going to make it’s budget back at the box office as it’s also performing soft overseas. DVD and Blu-ray sales will help, plus any merchandise, but being the lowest grossing superhero movie of the summer is no way to start a new franchise, especially if it’s the most expensive out of them all.

Last year Warner Bros. re-hired writers Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim to get started on the script for a Green Lantern sequel, however director Martin Campbell said recently that he wouldn’t return.

Would moving forward with a sequel be the right move, or desperation? Warner Bros. have already stated they intend to fill the gap left by the Harry Potter franchise with DC characters, but it seems they only succeed if Christopher Nolan is involved.

Read similar posts to Warner Bros. still moving forward with Green Lantern sequel? at Filmonic
