Paramount has released the full G.I. Joe: Retaliation Super Bowl TV spot ahead of the game this Sunday. The short trailer contains Dwayne Johnson reciting Jay Z, more action shots, and more of Bruce Willis.

As well as Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum the cast includes Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins. In the film the G.I. Joe team faces off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence.

We got a brief glimpse earlier but now Paramount has released the first full length trailer for G.I Joe: Retaliation. The trailer is introduced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and looks to be a big improvement on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Johnson appears to be the new lead (Channing Tatum is barely seen or heard in the trailer), and Paramount leave the introduction of Bruce Willis right till the end.

No matter what the movie is, if it has big name stars, iconic characters, or explosive action, it’s safe to say anyone would love a sneak peek at it, especially when the film doesn’t fully release until the summer of the next year.

The Dark Knight Rises is the perfect example of a film that has people anticipating the IMAX release of Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, and not even for the film itself, but a promise to witness the first 6 minutes of the epic finale of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise. But what if that first look is of a sequel of a film that was just a complete mess, simultaneously tarnishing its source material and enraging fans completely?

That film is none other than G.I Joe: Retaliation, and, even with just a short 18 second preview, it seems the sequel is making quite the effort to make us forget about the original that shall not be named, discarding the ridiculously fake robotic “super suits” and instead focusing more on the powerhouse introduction of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Bruce Willis. The film also stars Channing Tatum, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Adrianne Palicki, and Arnold Vosloo, among others.

Now as I mentioned before, this is only a quick preview of the full length trailer, which will premier later today, so I’ll keep all the details and opinions at a minimum until then. If the casting of Dwayne Johnson in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation last month wasn’t enough, Paramount are now in talks with another action star to join the film.

According to Heat Vision, if the deal works out, Bruce Willis will play General Joe Colton, the man who in the 1980s comic books starts the G.I. Joe strike team, called the ultimate freedom fighting force, and got the handle G.I. Joe.

Willis will join a cast that already includes Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson (villain Firefly), Adrianne Palicki, Lee Byung-hun, D.J. Cotrona, and Ray Park.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script for the sequel, and Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 3D) will be in the directors chair when filming begins later this month. Paramount have set the release date for June 29, 2012, a slot previously held by Star Trek 2 until it became clear it wouldn’t make that date.

Paramount’s aim to release Star Trek 2 on June 29, 2012 has become more and more unlikely as the year progressed. J.J Abrams was busy working on Super 8 until June, and writers Damon Lindelof, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman only had a 70 page outline in May.

Now according to Deadline the team are all free to focus on the sequel, and the current aim is to begin shooting in January. This, of course, means the June release is out of the window, so Paramount has given the G.I Joe sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, that slot.

The site says “Abrams hasn’t formally committed and hasn’t approved a script yet”, but it’s only a matter of time. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all expected to return, and we can expect Paramount to set a release date for the fourth quarter of 2012 or summer 2013.

Earlier this month we heard that Paramount were in discussions with Dwayne Johnson (Fast Five) to join G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes as a character called Roadblock, and now the actor has tweeted to confirm he’ll be part of the movie.

“It’s official: Call the Pentagon, get me my big ass gun – Rocks a JOE!”

Wikipedia states Roadblock’s “primary function in G.I. Joe is as a heavy machine gunner and a secondary function as a cook.” The character is also the cousin of Heavy Duty, who was played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Following news earlier this week that Dwayne Johnson was circling G.I. Joe 2, THR has word that French actress Elodie Yung is also in talks to join the sequel as a ninja called Jinx.

The actress will be seen in David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in December, but is best known for her role in District 13: Ultimatum which see kicks a considerable amount of ass in, as seen below:

The only cast members expected to return are Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Captain Duke Hauser) so we can expect further casting over the upcoming weeks. This date gives G.I Joe 2 no direct competition, although it will be released a week after The Bourne Legacy and Len Wisemen’s Total Recall reboot.

With Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) recently signing on to direct G.I Joe 2 it was only a matter of time before the cast got the call regarding their involvement. Most, if not all, were under contract to appear in more films, but it looks like Paramount will only be needing a few of them.

(Hint – The two characters which sell the most toys, and the lead guy).

Rachel Nichols, who played Shana Scarlett’ O’Hara in the first film, sent out a tweet informing everyone which characters will be returning.

GI JOE 2 News Flash: The only characters to return in the JON CHU directed sequel will be SNAKE EYES, STORM SHADOW, and DUKE…

So that’s Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Captain Duke Hauser), and we say farewell to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid and Rachel Nichols. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said last year that while all the cast were great, “it’s hard to manage as many characters as we tried” and that “it would make life a little easier to have a few less”, so we were expecting a few casualties.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote the script will have no doubt included new characters, so we should be hearing about new casting additions soon.
