New Avatar featurette shows us the war machines

By this time next month there is a good chance you will have seen James Cameron’s Avatar. You may have even seen it twice. In which case you will have seen every single scene, however until then you may want to avoid featurettes like this. While they are extremely cool and make you want to see the movie immediately, they do reveal a little bit too much.

This one focuses on the weapons, robots, hardware and aircraft the humans use in the film. We also see James Cameron and producer Jon Landau talking about the science and logistics behind it all, for instance, the reason the aircraft land and take-off vertically is due to the lack of actual landing strips on Pandora. It’s good to see some common sense in a big effects-orientated movie.

Here’s a new featurette for The Wolfman

Universal has released a new featurette which gives us a better understanding of the story behind The Wolfman. It begins by showing clips of The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein and other classic monster movies from the black and white era, and then Benico del Toro talks us though the story for this modern take on the “iconic” Wolfman, which will introduce the beast to “a new generation”.

We also see Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt discussing the film, along with some new footage.

James Cameron’s Avatar vision featurette

If the release of the new Avatar trailer yesterday was the highlight of your movie week then you will probably love this new Avatar featurette. It’s 4 minutes long and it contains LOTS of new footage (if you want to stay pure until December I would avoid this), along with interviews and sound-bites from James Cameron, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.

The scope and scale of this movie is huge!

The marketing will soon kick in and we will get even more footage, the only problem with that is I don’t want to be too spoiled before it’s release in 2 months. If you watch every trailer and TV spot you will become saturated with the imagery and it won’t be as special when you see it on the big screen. When the marketing blitz arrives I will post some stuff, but not everything.

What are your thoughts on the featurette? Should they show more of these or should they keep their Avatarholes shut for the next few months?

Fantastic Mr. Fox Featurette

If you ever wanted to know the kind of work that goes into making a stop-motion movie then watch the featurette for Fantastic Mr. Fox below. I knew it was a time consuming ordeal as the figures and puppets need to be moved only a small fraction at a time to keep everything looking fluid, but I didn’t know it would take 1 day just to get 30 seconds of footage. No wonder they’ve been making it since 2007! They also had George Clooney rolling around in a field to make the voice sound realistic.

Harry and Dumbledore Half-Blood Prince featurette

If Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released last year when originally intended it would already be out on DVD and Blu-Ray by now, but as it got pushed back 8 months we’ve had 8 months worth of extra marketing. I’ve lost count of how many posters have been release, however I won’t complain about the trailers because they’ve made me a born again Potter fan (I stopped watching after Azkaban but have recently caught up). The Half-Blood Prince marketing guys can finally see the end in sight, and have released a featurette which focuses on Harry and Dumbledore. We also see behind the scenes action and a bucket load of new scenes. Watch below!

This will be the last Half-Blood Prince footage-related post until it is released in two weeks time. Potter fans have waited two years for this, i’m sure they don’t want it spoiling with a barrage of clips days before it is finally released.

Centurion on-set featurette

Two weeks ago we got our first look at Olga Kurylenko in Niel Marshall’s Centurion, and now we have an on-set featurette from Rotten Tomatoes who were invited to the set to see filming take place in Scotland. In the video Niel Marshall talks about the back story behind Centurion and the historical events on which it is based. Nothing major happens but it is still interesting to watch.

Behind The Scenes Of The Incredible HulK

The Incredible Hulk DVD will be released on 21st October and, as with most DVD releases, we get a few previews in advance to show us what goodies the DVD contains. Below are 2 new behind-the-scenes clips off the bonus features for the DVD. One gives a cool look at Edward Norton “Becoming the Hulk”, another takes a look at the casting and why Edward Norton was selected to play the Hulk, and the third shows Tim Roth getting to grips with the ’speed running’ scene.

What’s this? A post about Zack Snyder’s Watchmen that has nothing to do with the legal battle between Fox and Warner Bros? Yay!

IGN have the sixth of 12 behind the scenes video journals looking the development of the film. Today’s video journal focuses on the look of Watchmen and the cinematography of Larry Fong (Lost). We also get to see Billy Crudup, who plays Dr. Manhattan (the blue man), in his unflattering motion capture suit.

Behind The Scenes Of Transformers 2

As part of its promo for the upcoming Transformers DVD (the boxes with the Bumblebee mask, the Optimus Prime mask, and the Transforming Megatron), Wal-Mart are showing behind-the-scenes videos from the set of Transformers 2.

The first video you’ll see is footage from the first day of filming at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the second video shows how ILM created the robots in the first film.

Behind The Scenes Of Babylon A.D

A behind the scenes featurette of Babylon A.D has appeared online. It contains the usual behind the scenes stuff along with explosions and stunts sequence.

Warning: Make sure the sound is low as the explosions are ferocious and will cause your eardrums a considerable amount of pain. However, feel free to go full volume if your into that sort of thing.

Babylon A.D will finally be released at the end of this month and stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh.
