Back in September 2008 Eva Longoria was photographed leaving the L.A. offices of Marvel Studios clutching a business card and some comic books in her hand. Naturally people started speculating and as The Avengers was one of the comic books she was holding it was thought Longoria may be up for the role of the Wasp in the film.

With the cast of The Avengers appearing on stage together at Comic-Con the speculation has started again, however Eva Longoria had denied any involvement in the movie, although she was in talks with Marvel about another project.

From IGN:

Q: We keep hearing about you playing The Wasp.

Eva Longoria: I keep hearing about that, too! I think it’s an Internet rumor as of now.

Q: Are you interested?

Longoria: I love comic stuff. I do! I think it’s fun. I don’t know anything about that character, that’s the thing. So I don’t know what that would be. … But yeah, I had taken a meeting about a different movie at Marvel and that’s where the rumor started. Someone saw me when I was walking out and thought I was meeting for that. But I think it’s a fantastic rumor! I’m just gonna go with it!

Longoria was apparently holding a copy of New Avengers Annual #2, however according to fans Janet van Dyne (aka the Wasp) is not even in this comic. The only women in this particular comic are Jessica Jones, SHIELD director Maria Hill, and Echo. Of these, Jessica Jones (Luke Cage’s wife) is the role Longoria was most likely in talks for but it has yet to come into function.

Eva Longoria, best known for playing the slut from Desperate Housewives, was photographed leaving the L.A. offices of Marvel Studios clutching a business card and some comic books in her hand. However, they were no ordinary comic books…one was The Avengers! The same Avengers that Marvel are planning to make into a movie in 2011. Suspicious? I assume so!

The LA Times speculate that Eva Longoria may be playing:

Janet Van Dyne, the winsome Wasp, a founding member of the Marvel super team and eventual wife of Hank Pym, the Ant-Man.

These images could mean a number of things:

A) Eva was given free comics by Marvel for the sake of it.
B) Eva was given free comics by Marvel so that she could research whatever role they want her for, and she would accept or decline the role based on her impressions of the character.
C) Eva was given free comics by Marvel because she is either playing a character in The Avengers movie or the upcoming Ant-Man movie.

Eva playing Wasp in the upcoming Ant-Man movie seems likely, seeing asthough it is directed by Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright and a comedy role would suit Eva more than a serious team Avengers movie.
