Once he’s finished promotion for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides he’ll be heading to London to start shooting his 8th collaboration with Tim Burton, Dark Shadows.

Today Warner Bros. sent out a press release announcing the start of production, along with the official synopsis for the movie.

Filming begins this week on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ “Dark Shadows,” which brings the cult classic television series to the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. The film’s all-star ensemble cast includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and newcomer Gulliver McGrath.

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

It’s also worth noting that cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) is working on the film so at least it will look great, even if Burton delivers another average film like he did with Alice in Wonderland. Burton has been hit and miss over recent years so hopefully he makes something along the lines of Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd.

Dark Shadows is scheduled for release on May 11th, 2012.

Read similar posts to Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows begins filming on Filmonic

Several actresses testing for two leading roles in Total Recall

Movie News

Colin Farrell

Diane Kruger

Eva Green

Eva Mendes

Kate Bosworth

Len Wiseman

Total Recall

While no official announcement has been made Colin Farrell is all but locked in to lead Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot, and Sony recently set the release date for August 3rd, 2012. One for each planet.

From Deadline:

First, there is the role of Lori, who started out the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed original as the happy homemaker wife of Douglas Quaid, only to transform into the bride from hell. That’s the role that really launched the star of Sharon Stone and I’m told that Kate Bosworth and Inglourious Basterds’ Diane Kruger are reading this week for that role.

There is also the role of Melina, which was originated by Rachel Ticotin, playing the woman who helps the protagonist get to the bottom of the futuristic scandal on Mars. I’m told that Eva Mendes and Paula Patton are reading for that role. Studio insiders warn me that list is not inclusive, and I’ve heard that Jessica Biel could be in contention for Melina, Eva Green too, and that Mendes is also being considered for the Lori role.

A mix of the usual names there. I don’t think there’s been a leading lady role over the past year without Biel’s name on it. If the decision came down to me i’d go for Diane Kruger as Lori, and either Paula Patton or Eva Green for Melina. I guess we’ll find out over the next week or so which actresses land the roles.

The original 1990 film followed a man (Arnold Schwarzenegger) haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.

This updated version is being described as a “new, contemporized adaptation”, so it should be quite different to what we saw 20 years ago. Kurt Wimmer (Salt) has written the screenplay, and filming will begin over the upcoming months.

Read similar posts to Several actresses testing for two leading roles in Total Recall on Filmonic

Eva Green joins Dark Shadows

Movie News

Dark Shadows

Eva Green

Johnny Depp

Tim Burton

According to Deadline Eva Green, who played Bond girl Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, will be joining Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Well according to a 74 year old woman she could be anyway.

Julie Newmar, Hollywood’s most iconic “Catwoman,” thinks Angelina Jolie is the right choice to slip into her skintight costume – once the steamy actress is back in fighting form.

“Angelina would own the part,” said Newmar.

“My industry friends tell me [she] has made inquiries about the role,” added the actress, who played Catwoman in the original “Batman” TV series starring Adam West.

Jolie probably would ‘own the role’ and has stared in a couple of action movie in her time so the stunts and whipping wouldn’t be a problem. However, if Angelina Jolie and The Dark Knight have a Google Fight she only loses by 3 million. Does Christopher Nolan really want an actress that will almost be as big as the film itself? We know Warner Bros weren’t too happy with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise taking away some shine off the Batman Begins release. What if Jolie gets pregnant again? Or what if her and Christian Bale get together, leaving Brad Pitt to do all the magazine interviews and telling everyone he’s ‘doing fine’?

I think if Catwoman were to make an appearance (which I doubt she will) then she should be played by Miss Eva Green.

If not give Helen Mirren a call. She’ll do it.

Read similar posts to Angelina Jolie As Catwoman? on Filmonic

BBC Reveals Quantum of Solace Secret?

Movie News

Eva Green

Quantum of Solace

Now this could be a case of reading too much into things, however it could potentially be a spoiler for Quantum of Solace, so if you do not want to know anything I suggest you remove your eyeballs or click another page…whichever is easiest. In the article it has the following sentence…

[Spoilers]

Quantum of Solace, the 22nd official film in the 007 series, picks up from Casino Royale as the secret agent sets out to avenge the apparent death of his lover.

Apparent death? From what I remember Bond tried to resuscitate Vesper but with no luck. Could this be a small mistake from whoever wrote the BBC article or can we expect to see Eva Green in Quantum of Solace?

Read similar posts to BBC Reveals Quantum of Solace Secret? on Filmonic
