Columbia Pictures has released an impressive new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man which stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. We finally get to see The Lizard in action (briefly), some wisecracking quips from Spider-Man, and a preview of the more physical fight scenes. There are also some pretty big action sequences towards the end.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Michael Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.

As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-Man will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Last month the official website for The Amazing Spider-Man was updated with story details and character descriptions which gave us a clearer picture of where Marc Webb’s reboot is headed. Now Columbia Pictures has released the official synopsis for the movie, which expands on what we know a little further.

Here’s the synopsis in full:

One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Webb recently confirmed we’d be seeing the second official trailer released sometime within the next month, so we’ll keep an eye out and let you know when it’s hitting!

Captain Stacy
An esteemed police officer for over twenty years, Captain Stacy is the public face of the NYPD who leads the department’s investigation into Spider-Man’s vigilantism. The only thing Captain Stacy vows to protect more than the city is his family – and particularly his only daughter, Gwen.

Dr. Curt Connors
One of the leading scientific minds, Dr. Connors attempts to engineer a revolutionary regeneration serum to help re-grow limbs and human tissue. His motivations are unclear as to why he elects to be the first human test subject – but what becomes evident is that something goes horribly wrong.

Columbia Pictures has today unveiled the official teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man via SHH. Fans will probably love the concept, but some may take issue with the tagline which tells us to prepare for ‘The Untold Story’.

We’ve already seen how Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s movies, so i’m not sure what Sony are suggesting with ‘The Untold Story’ tagline. Maybe it’s the same story told in a different way, and they’re trying to justify making the reboot so soon though the marketing.

According to Box Office Mojo, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer’s mafia epic The Gangster Squad has found a release date for October 19, 2012. The film tells the real life story of notorious mobster Mickey Cohen and the LA police department looking to bring him down. Said Mobster will be played by Sean Penn and also stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) among others.

From the sound of it, this has complete Oscar potential written all over it and it seems like Warner Bros. agrees with that philosophy, considering the fall release that normally bears those big name award winners. After all, the fall, Warner Brothers, and gangster movie are just a few buzz words that shout back to The Departed which went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture in 2007. With an all-star cast and intriguing storyline, The Gangster Squad seems like one to watch out for.

There’s still another year before The Amazing Spider-Man hits screens, but Sony are so confident the reboot will be a success that they’ve set a release date for the sequel.

According to Deadline The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a release date set for May 2, 2014. That’s 3 years away and will mean there’s only a two year gap between the films, but Sony are obviously keen to continue the franchise.

After a few bootlegs appeared online Columbia have officially released the first teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man in HD.

The trailer starts off more like a drama than a summer blockbuster. We see Peter Parker being left at his Aunt and Uncle’s, then we see him as a teenager at school. It looks like they are re-telling the origins again, as we see him getting bitten by a spider and climbing walls. Nothing indicates it’s a big budget movie until towards the end where we get a ‘point of view’ sequence of Spider-Man swinging through New York.

Next week is set to be one hell of a week for trailers. Warner Bros. is expected to release The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer online, having attached it to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and now SHH has word that the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man will be attached to Captain America: The First Avenger.

Sony have already made efforts to increase the hype by releasing a bunch of new images, giving us a good look at the cast, costume and Spidey’s web shooters.

Yesterday we heard that Lionsgate wanted The Amazing Spider-Man actress Emma Stone to play Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is essentially a retelling of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice with added zombie mayhem.

Well Deadline is now reporting that Stone won’t be appearing in the film. Apparently “an offer was made but it never got to the negotiation stage”.

There’s still another year to go before we see Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man, but until then the actress is set to spend a few months cutting up zombies as Elizabeth Bennet in Lionsgate’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The news comes from Variety who don’t provide any further information (other than “Lionsgate had no comment on the offer”), but it’s likely filming will begin sometime this year.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – essentially a retelling of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice with added zombie mayhem – was announced back in 2009 and has been through the hands of two directors, David O Russell (The Fighter) and Mike White (Year of the Dog). For reasons such as budget and scheduling conflicts they didn’t sick around, but Lars and the Real Girl director Craig Gillespie came on-board in April and it looks like he’s staying.

Emma Stone previously battled the undead in Zombieland, and can be seen in Friends with Benefits, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and The Help over the next few months.
