20th Century Fox has set a May 15th release date for Josh Trank’s Chronicle on DVD and Blu-ray. The movie, written by Max Landis, was released back in February and followed three high school students who make an incredible discovery, leading to them developing uncanny superpowers beyond their understanding.

To date the movie has made $116 million worldwide, and because it only cost $15 million to make a Chronicle sequel is already in the works.

The DVD and Blu-ray specifications will be released shortly, but you can check out the cover art below in the meantime:

Paramount Home Media has announced the Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Download release date for April 17, 2012.

The fourth film in the franchise, starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Paula Patton, has been both a critical and financial hit, with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and huge $650 million taken at the worldwide box office. It is now the most successful entry in the series (without taking inflation into account), and a fifth film is all but guaranteed.

Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol.” Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on DVD and Blu-ray on March 20th.

Following its release the movie, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, was seen as a disappointment box office-wise, but people judged too early as the movie has now made over $200 million worldwide, which is pretty good for an R-rated movie that cost $90 million to produce.

A sequel it pretty much a given at this point, and while Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are already signed on for further films director David Fincher is not, but he’s already expressed interest in shooting The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest back-to-back so if he does return it’ll probably be for both films.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set an April 24 release date for The Artist on DVD and Blu-ray.

The film, directed by Michel Hazanavicius, is cleaning up at the awards season and is expected to pick up a few Oscars later this month having received 10 nominations. Jean Dujardin has so far won a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of silent film star George Valentin, while Hazanavicius has received Best Director awards from The Globes and the Directors Guild of America.

The DVD and Blu-ray extras will include:

Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the DVD and Blu-ray release date for The Iron Lady will be April 10, 2012.

The Iron Lady was unable to recreate similar critical and commercial success The King’s Speech earned The Weinstein Company this time last year, but Meryl Streep has received her 17th Oscar nomination for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In addition to Streep’s Best Actress nomination, the film also received a nod for Best Makeup.

The Iron Lady Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD special features include:

Paramount has set a February 28th release date for Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated Hugo on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and Digital Download.

Recipient of more Academy Award nominations than any other film this year, Hugo has been nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and has already won Martin Scorsese the Golden Globe for Best Director. If the momentum continues Hugo could be a big winner at the Oscars on February 26th, so it’s no surprise to hear Paramount will be launching the DVD/Blu-ray just 2 days after the event.

Update: Paramount emailed to say the US release date for The Adventures of Tintin on DVD and Blu-ray has not been announced yet. It will, however, be released in the UK on March 19th.

No specifications have been released yet, but i’ll post them when they become available.

To date Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin has made $360 million worldwide, although so far it’s only earned $70 million in the US. It’s still showing in 1000+ places though so it could edge closer to $100m before its box office run comes to an end.

Despite the disappointing (but expected) US interest, it was named best animated film at the 69th Golden Globes and the sequel is already being written by screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, with Peter Jackson aiming to begin shooting the motion-capture elements later this year after he’s finished shooting The Hobbit. Producer Kathleen Kennedy said last month that the sequel is on track for release in Christmas 2014 or summer 2015.

Paramount Home Entertainment will be releasing Puss in Boots on DVD and Blu-ray February 24th. Puss in Boots – 3D will also be available on the same date.

The Shrek spin-off was released back in October and has made $400m worldwide. That’s a lot less than Shrek Forever After which made $750 million back in 2010, but with a budget of $130 million Puss in Boots is still a big success for DreamWorks and a sequel is likely on the cards.

Universal Studios UK has announced that Tarsem Singh’s Immortals will be released on DVD and Blu-ray March 5, 2012. The movie was released back in November and followed Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.

Immortals received mixed reviews but has given Relativity Media it’s biggest hit so far, with nearly $200 million earned worldwide. Given its $75m budget it can be considered a financial success and gives Cavill some leading man experiences before Man of Steel hits in 2013.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that Real Steel will be released on DVD and Blu-ray January 24, 2012. The movie starred Hugh Jackman as an out-of-work fighter who bonds with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) when they go to work rescuing a junkyard find named Atom, and groom it as a potential champion in the World Robot Boxing league.

Real Steel was released back in October and has made $250m worldwide so far. It’s a good number, but with a budget of around $110m (excluding marketing) it’s still unknown whether DreamWorks will move forward with the sequel they’ve been planning. Maybe after the DVD and Blu-ray sales they’ll have an idea.
