Dominic Monaghan, probably the most successful Hobbit post Lord of the Rings, spoke to MTV about the possibility of him returning to Middle Earth in The Hobbit.

“They really want us to come back, and I think there’s a really strong chance that we might be back,” Monaghan revealed to MTV News

“It’s a completely different story,” Monaghan continued. “You don’t have the same characters all the way through it. And I always read ‘The Hobbit’ as being more of a children’s introduction to the story, and then ‘Lord of the Rings’ was kind of the main piece.”

“And you would watch the films,” he said of his plans to prepare to play Merry again. “And try to understand the tonality of what you were trying to play. I was trying to play a boy, like an 11-year-old boy [in the original films], so I would just go back into what it was like to be a boy and have that sense of innocence [again]. So it’s not a huge push to get me back in there.

“I’ve been chatting with Pete and [writers] Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens] about the chance of us coming back,” he said of the recent activity that fans all over the world will undoubtedly find precious. “I think the fans of the first three ‘Lord of the Rings’ films will be charmed by going back into the world.”

At this point in time The Hobbit seems so far away there is no point getting excited yet. We’ll just have to keep watching the trilogy for a year or so until they actually start filming.

Dominic Monaghan will be seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (I told you he was successful) playing the character of ‘Beak’ (…oh….errrm…) who can manipulate electricity (oh that’s cool. He’s totally successful now).

For some unknown reason the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine are getting similar paparazzi treatment to that of Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. Expect Hugh Jackman to go shaving his head off by the end of this week and for Liev Schreiber to be entering rehab tomorrow morning. JustJared got photographs of Dominic Monaghan (Beak) and Taylor Kitsch (Gambit) departing from LAX airport in Los Angeles, heading for Australia where Wolverine is filming. Now they have images of Dominic Monaghan and Liev Schreiber grabbing ‘lunch with a pal at Swell Bar in Sydney, Australia’. These celebrity obsessed people fail to realise that this ‘pal’ is actually the director, Gavin Hood. The images show the three talking, looking at Hood’s laptop and holding, what looks like, the script. Liev is seen in a couple of photographs cupping his hand as though he is holding something. I just hope that it isn’t what I think it is, and that Beak doesnt come out of the scene any less of a man-bird…if you know what I mean.
