According to Variety Danny Elfman will no longer be composing the score for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games. Earlier this year it was announced that Elfman and T Bone Burnett would collaborate on the score, but due to commitments to Men in Black III and Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows Elfman has had to depart.

Instead, James Newton Howard will step in to work with Burnett on the music, and the good thing is the “transition will be seamless and the post production schedule won’t be impacted”. Howard collaborated with Hans Zimmer on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and has received 8 Oscar nominations for his work on movies such as The Village and Defiance. The Hunger Games opens in just over 4 months on March 23, 2012.

Danny Elfman, composer of such film scores as Wanted, Good Will Hunting and Spider-Man, will be composing the score for Terminator Salvation.

“I just started yesterday,” Elfman told MTV News from the red carpet of the Critics’ Choice Awards. [He] indicated that the original “Terminator” theme by composer Brad Fiedel was not in use yet; nor is there mandate to incorporate the classic symphonic hook. He did, however, leave the door open for its appearance.

“I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it],” Elman said. “And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like “T4” – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do.”

AICN received a phone call from someone at Universal who told them that Danny Elfman, composer of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Wanted and Spider-Man, will be composing the score for The Wolfman.

The movie is set in Victorian England and has a cast consisting of Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins. From the Comic Con footage that has now been removed from the face of the internet, the movie looks dark and Gothic, so we can expect that sort of tone with the music. I think in a movie like The Wolfman the music is vital, as it helps create the atmosphere. We can’t have the Wolfman ripping people to shreds with a merry tune in the background. It has to be dark and vicious!
