It’s that time of year again. We’ve recently been getting awards nominations for all the best movies of 2010, and now we’re starting to get cool mash-up videos containing a montage of clips from (most of the) movies released this year. The video embedded below does a good job of mashing them all together, and is nicely edited too.

This year’s movies have legitimately transformed my idea of what is creatively possible. To commemorate, I’ve remixed 270 of them into one giant ass video.

In 1996 there was a Star Trek/X-Men crossover comic published by Marvel, and then another in 1998. Due to rights, copyright and a whole bunch of legal stuff we will never get a movie version of these two worlds colliding on the big screen, but that hasn’t stopped a guy called silverlightsaber with video editing software and free time from making a cool Star Trek vs. X-Men trailer.

I’m not sure a movie featuring the two worlds would actually work on-screen, but this trailer makes me want one nonetheless.

Here’s the creators story behind the trailer:

After an accidental time warp causes the Enterprise to travel to an alternate reality, the crew must somehow find a way back. If not, the universe will collapse from two conflicting realities. Aware of this, Professor Xavier and his X-Men are forced to destroy this threat before everything is wiped out. Honoring one of my favorite comic mini-series ever, this is my version of these two universes colliding.

Universal Studios Orlando will be opening The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a few weeks time, and today they gave Potter fans their first look at Hogwarts. This is an actual building, not some CGI wizardry like we see in the films.

The area will showcase many locations and buildings featured in the films, such as Ollivander’s wand shop, HoneyDukes candy shop, The Three Broomsticks and The Owlery. There will also be rides such as Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge. As for Hogwarts, it will contain Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey which “is a thrilling new state-of-the-art attraction that uses entirely new technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced”.

Do you have 22 minutes free? If not, I suggest you make yourself available for the foreseeable future as Yahoo! has released a 22 minute behind the scenes featurette which shows us…how Avatar was made, basically.

We see James Cameron and the cast in an Hawaiian rainforest in order to get a better grasp at what it would be like to be on Pandora. We are taken through all the stages of the film making process, from Zoe Saldana training for her role as Neytiri, to James Horner crafting his score for the film. It’s definitely a must see for those who loved the film, and even for those who didn’t.

After watching that it just re-enforces why Avatar won the Golden Globe earlier this week for best film, and why it will hopefully win a bunch of Oscars in a few weeks time. While I love Inglourious Basterds and all those other contenders as much as the next guy, a lot more time and effort went into making Avatar. And while it didn’t have the best screenplay out of the bunch, it definitely made up for it in terms of visual effects and just generally setting a benchmark in terms of film making.

New York City seems like a cool place, i’ve never been there myself, but from what I’ve seen it has a lot going for it. However in the movie world New York is the place I’d least like to live. Everything happens there. Cloverfield monsters, tidal waves, alien invasions, and meteor strikes. Every possible disaster always seem to strike the Statue of Liberty and the citizens always have to run for their lives. You’d have thought after all this time Hollywood would have found somewhere else to blow up.

Well Goodie Bag has created a video called “Hollywood vs. New York”, which features four decades of destruction and death courtesy of the special effect wizards in the movie industry.

It’s amazing what you can do if you have 440 hours of free time and a few pieces of Lego. Just in time for the 10th anniversary of the first films release, LegoMatrix.com have released a 1 minute 24 second video of the bullet time scene which is made entirely out of Lego (and other props).
