Cool 2012 marketing in a Brazilian subway

2012 must be a fun movie to market. Columbia don’t have to satisfy a fanbase or photoshop peoples body parts, as their only focus is scare the crap out of people in the hope they go and see a disaster movie about the end of the world. Most of the posters we have seen for the film have featured drowning cities and falling landmarks, which were eye catching enough in there average form, however from the image above you can see the marketing folks went a little bit further to promote the film in a Brazilian subway.

If only they covered the ceiling too. That would really get peoples attention!

Fan made X-Men Origins: Magneto Trailer

Last month X-Men producer Lauren Shulder Donner pretty much confirmed that X-Men Origins: Magneto, which had been in development limbo for 2 years, was dead. I can understand why, I mean out of all the planned X-Men movies Magneto would probably perform worst at the box office, unless they could somehow get Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt involved.

The script revolved around a young Magneto getting revenge on Nazi’s and befriending a young Charles Xavier. It’s not really blockbuster material, however I would love to see a Magneto movie at some point in the future. The character may not be as commercial as Wolverine but he is far more interesting. 20th Century Fox just need to find a director who could make a dark, gritty and badass movie.

In the meantime (which could be a few years) here’s a cool X-Men Origins: Magneto fan made trailer you can be watching. It uses footage from all three movies, so (if you can) just imagine everyone looking younger. It also doubles up as a tribute to the character Ian McKellen brought to life so magnificently.

How Transformers: Revenge of the Fallan should have ended

Sometimes I’m actually quite glad Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had a bunch of plot holes and inconsistencies, because now it can be spoofed and made fun of until the end of time. The How It Should Have Ended team have made videos on lots of movies such as Spider-Man 3 and Lord of the Rings, and now they’ve made one that pokes fun at the biggest blockbuster of the summer.

The HISHE short that made me lose any kind of summer tan I had, “Transformers 2.” I hope you enjoy our latest addition. I have wanted to make a “Transformers” title for many years now, and when “Revenge of the Fallen” came out, it was obviously the appropriate time. Despite the massive amounts of money that movie made over the summer, there are actually an insane amount of plot holes/errors as well. So many, in fact, we had to pick and choose which ones we’d like to point out most, otherwise this short could easily have been 8 minutes :) Some of yall might not have a problem with that, but we gotta keep our vid length reasonable.

Pixar Intro Parody

Everytime we sit down to watch a Pixar film we always see the iconic intro with the lamp bouncing casually on the letter ‘i’. He squishes it, looks around to the screen, and then we enjoy 2 hours of Pixar magic. This has been the norm for years, however College Humor have decided to make their own version of the Pixar intro which takes a more dark and serious tone. Watch their video below:

It’s still the weekend and there’s still no worthy news so here’s another cool fan trailer. It’s from the same guy who made The Incredible Hulk vs. Wolverine, but this time Batman faces off against Blade, defying not only studio rights but also comic book worlds.

It’s the weekend and there’s not much news so I thought I’d post this rather cool fanmade trailer I came across today. Earlier this year Marvel Studios released a Hulk Vs. Wolverine DVD, however due to different studios owning different character rights we will probably never get to see such an epic clash on the big screen for many years, if ever. YouTube user silverlightsaber knows this, and had decided to do something about it by making his own Incredible Hulk vs. Wolverine trailer, and it’s not bad.

If the trailer made you tingle in places you never knew existed then you will probably enjoy the Batman vs. Terminator trailer which was posted a few months ago. Click here to watch it!

A look at the special effects in 2012, and a look at 2012 without them

If you have seen the trailers and 5 minute preview for Roland Emmerich 2012 then you may have noticed that a great deal of special effects are involved. It’s not obvious at first but after you see California sink into the ocean, killing millions, it suddenly dawns on you that they didn’t actually sink part of America for the movie, so some of that movie magic must be involved somewhere. Well Yahoo! have posted a new feature online which takes us behind the scenes of 2012, and we get a glimpse at how they make all that craziness.

It’s clear that 2012 relies heavily on special effects, but what would the movie look like without them? It’d probably be 2 hours of this:

James Cameron’s Avatar is using the latest in motion capture technology to create the world of Pandora, and the technology inspired Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson to make The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. Now a new technology has been invented, called CGI-brows, which movies with smaller budgets can take advantage of and it will apparently turn “a very flat, dull, boring performance into an Oscar nominated performance”. Is this the future of the movie industry?

Unused Inglourious Basterds poster

PosterWire got their hands on an unused poster for Inglourious Basterds, and having seen the film I can appreciate how cool this is. It’s a shame it wasn’t used.

Illustrator James Goodridge spoke to them about the process behind it:

I came up with 6 designs one of which became the favourite of all concerned. However at this time the movie studio decided they’d like to try building it in photoshop. A few weeks later I was asked to produce an illustrated comp. I should mention how important it is to have a creative director who believes in the illustration option and I was so fortunate that this was the case. The comp was approved with only minor changes but we heard nothing more. I never met with anyone at the studio or the filmmakers so I don’t know what took place but the decision was made not to pursue the illustration.
This was the one project this year I thought I’d never get the opportunity to work on after seeing the early teasers so I was really excited to work on it. Yes, I wish the image had been used but I’ve been working in this arena long enough to know that, until it’s printed, nothing is certain.
