The Dark Knight re-release date

Warner Bros have confirmed that The Dark Knight will be released on IMAX in the US, with a planned date of January 23rd.

Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing The Dark Knight back for a return engagement in theaters and IMAX on January 23, 2009, giving audiences one more chance to see the film on the big screen. The film will re-open nationwide, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.
In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “‘The Dark Knight’ is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen.”
One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, The Dark Knight has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, including the work of its outstanding cast and its director, Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan

The Dark Knight Nearing The $1 Billion Mark. Batman Town Suing Nolan.

The Dark Knight’s total gross as of Monday morning is $997,535,317, and it is expected to cross the $1 billion mark when it is re-released in January (to remind those Oscar folk how good it is).

Meanwhile, Variety say that the major of a town in southeastern Turkey named “Batman” is suing director Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. for royalties from The Dark Knight. Huseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of Batman, has accused the film’s producers of using the city’s name without permission.

“There is only one Batman in the world,” Kalkan said. “The American producers used the name of our city without informing us.”
The mayor is prepping a series of charges against Nolan and Warner Bros., which owns the right to the Batman character, including placing the blame for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate on the psychological impact that the film’s success has had on the town’s inhabitants.
Former natives of Batman are also said to have encountered obstacles when attempting to register their businesses abroad. The mayor is working on gathering together evidence he claims will show that the city of Batman predates the 1939 debut of Bob Kane’s superhero in DC Comics.

Christopher Nolan Has Been Asked The Question We All Want Answering

Soon after The Dark Knight was released director Christopher Nolan flew off to stay at Anna Maria Island on the west coast of Florida. Now he is back and he has got some questions we want answering! Such as the one below from the Los Angeles Times:

Could you see actually yourself not making the third Batman film?
NOLAN: Well … let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven’t been too many of those either. It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer.

He has a point, most trilogies seem to have peaked with their second movie. X-Men 3 could have been so much better. Spider-Man 3 was good but not great. At World’s End made less money than Dead Man’s Chest. After the huge success of The Dark Knight, can Nolan top it? There is no denying that Heath Ledger’s death contributed to the buzz surrounding The Dark Knight. Could the same buzz and anticipation be created for the next film?

In my time zone I am too late, but in countries whether the darkness of night has not yet fallen…it is Christopher Nolan’s 38th birthday!

Lets hope the director is not too intoxicated to miss The Dark Knight sliding past the $500 million worldwide mark in a day or three.
