Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the DVD and Blu-ray release date for The Iron Lady will be April 10, 2012.

The Iron Lady was unable to recreate similar critical and commercial success The King’s Speech earned The Weinstein Company this time last year, but Meryl Streep has received her 17th Oscar nomination for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In addition to Streep’s Best Actress nomination, the film also received a nod for Best Makeup.

The Iron Lady Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD special features include:

“The Making of The Iron Lady” featurette and four mini-featurettes, including “Recreating the Young Margaret Thatcher,” “Battle in the House of Commons,” “Costume Design: Pearls and Power Suits,” and “Denis: The Man Behind the Woman.”

Paramount has set a February 28th release date for Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated Hugo on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and Digital Download.

Recipient of more Academy Award nominations than any other film this year, Hugo has been nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and has already won Martin Scorsese the Golden Globe for Best Director. If the momentum continues Hugo could be a big winner at the Oscars on February 26th, so it’s no surprise to hear Paramount will be launching the DVD/Blu-ray just 2 days after the event.

Update: Paramount emailed to say the US release date for The Adventures of Tintin on DVD and Blu-ray has not been announced yet. It will, however, be released in the UK on March 19th.

No specifications have been released yet, but i’ll post them when they become available.

To date Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin has made $360 million worldwide, although so far it’s only earned $70 million in the US. It’s still showing in 1000+ places though so it could edge closer to $100m before its box office run comes to an end.

Despite the disappointing (but expected) US interest, it was named best animated film at the 69th Golden Globes and the sequel is already being written by screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, with Peter Jackson aiming to begin shooting the motion-capture elements later this year after he’s finished shooting The Hobbit. Producer Kathleen Kennedy said last month that the sequel is on track for release in Christmas 2014 or summer 2015.

To celebrate Bond’s 50th anniversary, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have announced they’ll be releasing all 22 Bond films on Blu-ray later this year.

The collection, called Bond 50, will include all 22 feature films from Dr. No to Quantum of Solace and more than 130 hours of bonus features.

“With all 22 feature films available on Blu-ray in one collection for the first time this is a great way for fans to catch up on 007’s epic journey before Skyfall hits theaters next Fall,” said Michael Brown, Senior Vice President, MGM Home Entertainment. “Now viewers can enjoy the intense action of the innovative franchise in the most immersive home experience possible.”

Paramount Home Entertainment will be releasing Puss in Boots on DVD and Blu-ray February 24th. Puss in Boots – 3D will also be available on the same date.

The Shrek spin-off was released back in October and has made $400m worldwide. That’s a lot less than Shrek Forever After which made $750 million back in 2010, but with a budget of $130 million Puss in Boots is still a big success for DreamWorks and a sequel is likely on the cards.

Universal Studios UK has announced that Tarsem Singh’s Immortals will be released on DVD and Blu-ray March 5, 2012. The movie was released back in November and followed Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.

Immortals received mixed reviews but has given Relativity Media it’s biggest hit so far, with nearly $200 million earned worldwide. Given its $75m budget it can be considered a financial success and gives Cavill some leading man experiences before Man of Steel hits in 2013.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that Real Steel will be released on DVD and Blu-ray January 24, 2012. The movie starred Hugh Jackman as an out-of-work fighter who bonds with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) when they go to work rescuing a junkyard find named Atom, and groom it as a potential champion in the World Robot Boxing league.

Real Steel was released back in October and has made $250m worldwide so far. It’s a good number, but with a budget of around $110m (excluding marketing) it’s still unknown whether DreamWorks will move forward with the sequel they’ve been planning. Maybe after the DVD and Blu-ray sales they’ll have an idea.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 has only just been released onto the big screen but Summit Entertainment are already planning ahead for the eventual DVD and Blu-ray release. No official release date has been set (it’ll probably be March or April given the release date window for previous films in the franchise), but the studio has unveiled the DVD/Blu-ray covers, along with details on the special features.

Amazon has now made Drive available to pre-order via these links: DVD | Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set the Drive DVD and Blu-ray release date for January 31, 2012. The movie, which was released back in September, starred Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, and Christina Hendricks, and was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.

Drive is currently one of the best movie of the year with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and despite its R rating it managed to earn $34 million at the US box office, and $63 million in total worldwide. Not bad for a movie that cost $15 million.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn said he hopes to put together a ‘Queen Edition’ DVD/Blu-ray which “describes the process of the filmmaking, and answers some of the more mysterious elements of the success of that it has achieved”, but until that happens the standard edition DVD and Blu-ray will contain the following special features:

- “Drive Without a Driver”
- “I Drive”
- “Under the Hood”
- “Driver and Irene”
- “Cut to the Chase”

Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).

After a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defence for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk-that they’re coming straight for Irene and her son-Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.

Sony has set the Moneyball DVD and Blu-ray release date for January 10, 2012. The movie, starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright, was released back in September and follows the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

Moneyball was directed by Bennett Miller and has made $71 million worldwide so far (it will be rolling out in the UK and other territories between now and February). The movie has an impressive 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, so an awards campaign and Best Actor push for Pitt may be on the horizon.
