Harry Potter Ultimate Edition videos

With every Harry Potter movie Warner Bros. make there is an ever-growing pile of footage piling up on the cutting room floor, so after 9 years of accumulation they’ve decided to add it all onto the end of the previously released movies, and sell it.

The first two of these Ultimate Editions are obviously Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which will be released next month alongside the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. They are now available to pre-order from Amazon:

Along with new scenes the Ultimate Editions will also show never before seen footage from behind the scenes, and the videos below show how Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint got their lead roles in the biggest movie franchise of all time.

I’m actually the same age as these guys, so it’s been cool to see them grow up with me (or me with them). Anyway, here’s a trailer for the whole Ultimate Edition series:

While I’m please Warner Bros. have done this, I’m a bit confused as to what to do with the Half-Blood Prince DVD. Do I buy it next month, or so I wait months, possible another year, for the Ultimate Edition? Warner Bros. aren’t getting twice the money from me!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine may not have been as good as it could have, but it seems people liked it enough to buy it on DVD and Blu-ray as the film has broken a few records since it’s release. So far the clawed one has racked in $60 million in DVD sales, adding to the $350 million during it’s run, and now Latino Review have received a run-down on the Blu-ray success.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the first big blockbuster out of the doors this summer so I’m sure the #1 Best Selling 2009 Blu-ray release will be taken by either Harry Potter or Transformers in a few weeks. 20th Century Fox will still be pleased with the numbers though, and now it makes sense why they are getting to work on Wolverine 2 before X-Men: First Class.

Update: According to The Leaky Cauldron official footage from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movies will be included on the special edition version of the DVD, as well as on the Blu-ray copies. Just another reason to buy it!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is now available to pre-order on Amazon.com. It won’t officially be released until December 8th, but keen Potter fans can make sure theirs arrives as soon as it becomes available. Trick ‘r Treat DVD trailer

Last month we heard that Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat would finally be available to the masses after 2 years of release date limbo. The film will be going straight to DVD and Blu-Ray on October 6th, 2 years and 1 day after it was originally intended to be released. To promote the release Warner Bros. have revealed a new trailer, which can be seen below.

The film stars Brian Cox, Anna Paquin and Dylan Baker and revolves around four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween. You can pre-order the DVD from Amazon by clicking here!

Poll: Where do you stand on Blu-Ray?

Just over a year ago Blu-Ray disc won the format war against HD-DVD and ever since movie studios and the entertainment industry have been ploughing full steam ahead with the new format. As expected studios have re-released a large amount of their films in Blu-Ray with everything from the recent Spider-Man
and X-Men trilogies to 1984’s Ghostbusters getting the blue seal. According to some reports Blu-Ray sales are expected to double in 2009 compared to last year, and the Blu-ray format is currently on pace to sell 100 million units this year worldwide.

A few months ago I decided it was time to buy a new laptop and I made the decision that I wanted it to have a Blu-Ray player built in so that I could watch Blu-Ray films on my laptop instead of buying a standalone Blu-Ray player and then a HD TV for it to play on. As of today I do not own a Blu-Ray movie, however I did rent all the Harry Potter films on Blu-Ray and I am pleased to announce that Iron Man was my ‘first’ Blu-Ray experience. That night was so special…

It is looking like Blu-Ray is ‘the future’ but it will be a while before it overtakes the DVD as the dominant format. It took around a decade for the DVD to eradicate the VHS, so we could be seeing a similar time scale with this transition.

The Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is finally making it’s way onto Blu-ray. However, there is only one problem.

From The Digital Bits:

Sources close to director Peter Jackson have informed me that he’s saving the extended editions of the films for an “ultimate” box set release closer to the debut of the new Hobbit films – that’s why these BDs are set to be theatrical only…
…I’ve officially confirmed with the studio that this initial Blu-ray release is real and it’s coming before the end of this year, but I’m told it won’t be officially announced for another few months yet.

So we can either experience the epic trilogy in Blu-ray form this year, or we can wait another few years (2012) for the extended editions. Personally, i’ll probably play their damn game and buy both.
