A new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness premiered during the Super Bowl, but that’s not the only good news for those eagerly anticipating the movie. The new app for the film will allow anyone who downloads it to purchase tickets for an early release on May 15th at 8:00, a couple of days before everyone else gets to see it. The May 15th showings will be exclusively in IMAX 3D, so be prepared to hand over a pretty penny for the early showing.
Of all the upcoming films next year to see in IMAX Star Trek Into Darkness is probably the most tantalizing one, if you feel like shelling out the extra cash. Like its predecessor and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films parts of the movie have been shot using IMAX cameras. All told there is said to be around half an hour of footage shot on IMAX cameras.
J.J. Abrams, who helmed 2009’s Star Trek also directed Into Darkness before he was swayed over to a galaxy far far away to direct Star Wars Episode VII. Into Darkness was written by Abram’s old Lost collaborator Damon Lindelof along with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
