Ah, Christmas… you’ve gotta love that time of year where you get blinded by twinkling lights, bullied with rampant consumerism, and forced to actually talk to relatives you spend the majority of the year avoiding. Okay, so there’s the cynical side. There’s also good things about the holiday, like having the excuse to drink excessively, to gorge yourself on sugary goodies, and to binge watch themed movies. If you’re sick of the traditional Yuletide fare, here are 7 bizarro Christmas movies to pass the time, and you probably haven’t even heard of least half of them.
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
Turning a Christmas movie into a campy horror fest works so well, it’s surprising that it’s still a rarity in films today (but you can find a few, I’ve got three on this list). Well, this is a Finnish horror-fantasy movie about reindeer herders who unwittingly discover a supernatural “Santa”, only this isn’t the cuddly Tim Allen Ho-Ho-Ho Man. No, this wicked Santa is creepy and Grimmesque, and he maliciously punishes bad children. The stark setting adds a tense feel to this very black horror-comedy.
