Sony has announced that Marc Webb’s 2012 Spider-Man reboot will be titled The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as revealing a new high-res pic of Spidey himself, complete with the mechanical web shooters.
Here’s the big version of the pic below:
Looks pretty cool, huh? Much better than the leaked set photos of course, but then that’s to be expected. The mechanical web shooters are what Peter Parker used in the original Spider-Man comics, as opposed to the natural web-shooting ability he possessed in Sam Raimi’s film trilogy.
I’m hugely glad that the title from the comics, The Amazing Spider-Man, was chosen, as opposed to another simple “Spider-Man,” or something stupid like “Spider-Man Reborn.” I hope they continue to do that sort of thing with the sequels, rather than numbering them (like Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises).
I’m not a huge Spider-Man comic nut (I’ve started reading Ultimate Spider-Man, however), but Quint at AICN thinks that the new costume has started leaning towards the Spider-Man 2099 aesthetic, and that the addition of artificial web shooters will add a new dimension to fight scenes. Especially after Spider-Man 3, I really hope the new film is good.
