Six actors in the running for Captain America

captainamerica2011 The First Avenger: Captain America director Joe Johnston recently said that he will be hiring his lead actor soon, and now according to Deadline Hollywood Marvel and co. have been busy screen testing several actors this week. Among those apparently in the running are:

Chace Crawford (CW’s Gossip Girl), John Krasinski (NBC’s The Office), Scott Porter (NBC’s Friday Night Lights), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Michael Cassidy (CW’s Privileged), Patrick Flueger (Brothers). They also wanted Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy), but he so far hasn’t made a test deal. The studio yesterday tested several candidates from this list.

I’m not particularly familiar with any of them, so I can’t really say who i’d prefer. I know Scott Porter was cast as Superman in Justice League: Mortal before it was scrapped, which means he must have something ‘heroic’ about him. Chace Crawford will probably have the female vote because of his looks, and therefore shouldn’t get the role. Mike Vogel audition for Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand (which eventually went to Ben Foster), so he’s been trying to land a superhero role for a while.

Which actor would you prefer to wield the shield? Or do you want someone else entirely?

    Jim from the Office? Really? xD This made me lol. I love him, but, not for Captain America.

    And why are they casting so young anyway? I was kind of hoping for an older guy. Like, Robert Downey Jr is going to look really old next to Chris Hemsworth and someone like Chace Crawford.

    I kind of like Scott Porter, and maybe Garrett Hedlung. Everyone else looks too young/feminine. Like, I thought they're casting Chris Hemsworth as Thor would be their pretty boy, seeing as he's a God. I want Captain America a bit more rugged and war torn. >:D Manly man.. yeah.. Speaking for the girls..

    Aaaaanyway, all of them need to buff up an insane amount, so I'm trying to picture them a bit bigger. Maybe once they put on a few it won't seem so weird.

    I can't see any of them for the role. Honestly I think someone like Jensen Ackles or John Barrowman. Someone along those lines.

    Scott Porter is the only name on that list that doesn’t make me cringe for this film. I understand the logic in casting young, but give us a face that can actually instill great confidence in a goddamn army of men fighting for the fate of the world! Most of these guys look like backstreet boys!The problem with Cap's costume on real people, historically, is the stupid-literal pantone-calibration of the colors of the costume. Seriously: who the hell is going to dress a Super Soldier in powder blue? It's that color blue in the comics because that's the color blue they use in comics. Anything darker looks like black when on cheap paper.

    Apparently it's going to be announced next week. Or at least, that's what they were hinting at in the Weekly Watcher at Marvel.com.

    I'm extreeemely anxious. Even more so than the Thor casting.
