News from Bloody-Disgusting is that Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) has been tapped to both write and direct Silent Hill 2, the sequel to the 2006 horror movie directed by Christophe Gans which starred Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean. The site also mentions the movie will be called Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
Despite it’s flaws I enjoyed Silent Hill. Not a lot of game-to-movie adaptations work, but I thought this one was better than most and I find myself watching it every now and again.
According to BD:
The sequel follows Heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run – always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
It looks like Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean won’t be returning, but I suppose seeing Silent Hill from another character’s perspective will freshen things up.
Lionsgate is currently shopping the project at the American Film Market so we should be hearing more once (and if) a deal is struck. The fact that they aim to make it in 3D suggests it will probably get a theatrical run, but it is often the case that sequels to mildly successful horror films go straight to DVD.
