The system in question is a malfunctioning climate-controlling satellite that must be stopped before it destroys the world, that’s Geostorm in a nutshell.
“When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth’s very survival, world governments unite and create the Dutch Boy Program: a world wide net of satellites, surrounding the planet, that are armed with geoengineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers are tasked with solving the program’s malfunction before a world wide Geostorm can engulf the planet.”
But is the satellite really malfunctioning? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the “twist” here is there’s someone behind it all, probably some evil genius bent on world domination, played by a Scottish actor. Wait a minute, Gerard Butler is Scottish, that can’t be right, he is the hero. No, that’s a thing that happened in The Avengers. No, not that Avengers, I mean the 1998 “classic” (by the way, not really a classic, very bad movie, don’t waste your time watching it). Joking aside Geostorm does look much better in this trailer than the last one, so there’s that. Also disaster movies tend to be entertaining, even the really bad ones.
Dean Devlin directed Geostorm back in 2014 and then Danny Cannon helmed the late 2016 re-shoots (red flag). Starring in the film are Gerard Butler, Andy Garcia, Ed Harris, Abbie Cornish a many more.
You could absolutely say this movie has been a long time coming, initially set to open March 2016 and then October 2016, January 2017 and now finally Geostorm is supposedly set for October 20th. Let’s hope this is it.
