Following the announcement that Samuel L. Jackson had signed a 9 movie deal with Marvel to play Nick Fury it was assumed he would be appearing in all of Marvel’s upcoming movies. We will be seeing him in Iron Man 2 next month, however in a recent interview Jackson revealed that he won’t be in Thor, although he will be in Captain America.
From IESB:
I got started on it when I did the end of Iron Man 1. My foot was on the path. Now, my foot is a little deeper on the path ’cause we’ve got Iron Man 2. I’m not in Thor. I’m supposed to do Captain America this summer in London.
Q: Why aren’t you in Thor?
Sam: I have no idea. I’m not in charge of making those decisions. I thought I was. They said I was in the trades, and I was like, “Oh, I’ve got a job!” And then, I called my agent and she said, “Nah, you’re not in it. They misprinted.” I was like, “Well shit, they need to pay me just ’cause they put my name in it.”
Q: Do you have any desire to campaign for your own Nick Fury film?
Sam: The Avengers is my own starring vehicle for that character, pretty much.
Q: But, that’s so far away.
Sam: That’s not that far away. It’s just February. I’ve got time to get in shape and everything.
From what we have heard it appears Captain America will mostly be taking place during WWII, so Nick Fury will either be time travelling or catching up with Steve Rogers in the present day. Possibly to defrost him.
Thor is still filming so there is still a chance Nick Fury could appear, although Marvel obviously know what they are doing and they may have their reasons for not putting him in the film.
