Sam Worthington as Dracula??

Dracula

Latino Review received a “hot tip” today regarding Dracula: Year Zero. A film with a dreadful title.

Source “Pinche Taco” reveals that Universal is trying to decide which films to begin production on for summer 2011, and that 8 will be chosen from a possible 14…he writes this about Dracula: Year Zero, one of the choices:

[...] the craziest one is called DRACULA: YEAR ZERO. Yes I know, un titulo de mierda. This is a period retelling of Dracula. Like back in Transylvania and sh*t. Vampires and Vlad the impaler. You know, Van Helsing without that dial a hack Sommers. Because Dracula worked out so well in Blade: Trinity. And I think there was a Dracula 2000… but I don’t know who saw it.

And the main news here (which won’t be surprising unless you’ve read this backwards) is that Sam Worthington will apparently be portraying the Count. I guess it’s an “interesting” development, but it doesn’t give me much hope for the project… The role of Dracula should be a charismatic, or a subdued, marvelously evil one, or anything unique – and Worthington just doesn’t seem to fit the bill. He’s been in lots of huge movies recently; Terminator Salvation, Avatar, the upcoming Clash of the Titans…and sure, he’s done the job, but he’s yet to prove himself as a memorable, talented actor and justify his casting in all of these giant roles. It’s all been very by-the-numbers. I don’t quite understand why everyone in Hollywood seems to want him in their film. As usual, I’ll try to reserve judgement for now, but it’s gonna be difficult. Prove me wrong, Mr. Worthington?

Best of luck to them! Worthington is cool …

Please read my blog on Dracula: Year Zero -vs- Brad Pitt's Vlad:

I'm really looking forward to Vlad, has the potential to be awesome…I hope they go for a more realistic, Kingdom of Heaven feel, rather than a highly stylised 300 one. In either case – should be different to the majority of other Dracula movies out there. Hopefully will be good. :D

As much as I want to pull a 'fan girl' and defend Sam.. I agree with your comments. :) He's done really well in the roles he's done, but Dracula? Maybe he'll be awesome, it's just one of the last roles I could have seen him doing.

Wasn't Brad Pitt doing this? Has anyone even been confirmed or is it all just speculation?

Well maybe they go for a different Dracula this time…more badass action dude^^

anyway…Worthington would more be the guy flocking Dracula and killing an army of Vampires on his way.

And I think he really does good acting…I mean Terminator Salvation (good film or not) he simply carried that movie on his own!

Brad Pitt's doing Vlad, based on the the actual Vlad the Impaler – Dracula: Year Zero is something completely different…I'm much more excited for Vlad!

I'm sure people have heard how he prepares for his roles. He dresses up and acts like the character he's playing months before they actually start shooting. I can see him getting his teeth sharpened and literally try to suck someone blood out of their body.
