Latino Review received a “hot tip” today regarding Dracula: Year Zero. A film with a dreadful title.
Source “Pinche Taco” reveals that Universal is trying to decide which films to begin production on for summer 2011, and that 8 will be chosen from a possible 14…he writes this about Dracula: Year Zero, one of the choices:
[...] the craziest one is called DRACULA: YEAR ZERO. Yes I know, un titulo de mierda. This is a period retelling of Dracula. Like back in Transylvania and sh*t. Vampires and Vlad the impaler. You know, Van Helsing without that dial a hack Sommers. Because Dracula worked out so well in Blade: Trinity. And I think there was a Dracula 2000… but I don’t know who saw it.
And the main news here (which won’t be surprising unless you’ve read this backwards) is that Sam Worthington will apparently be portraying the Count. I guess it’s an “interesting” development, but it doesn’t give me much hope for the project… The role of Dracula should be a charismatic, or a subdued, marvelously evil one, or anything unique – and Worthington just doesn’t seem to fit the bill. He’s been in lots of huge movies recently; Terminator Salvation, Avatar, the upcoming Clash of the Titans…and sure, he’s done the job, but he’s yet to prove himself as a memorable, talented actor and justify his casting in all of these giant roles. It’s all been very by-the-numbers. I don’t quite understand why everyone in Hollywood seems to want him in their film. As usual, I’ll try to reserve judgement for now, but it’s gonna be difficult. Prove me wrong, Mr. Worthington?
