A few days ago we heard that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi had been offered the directors chair on Oz, The Great And Powerful by Disney. Well according to Deadline Raimi has accepted said offer, and he will be directing Robert Downey Jr. as the Wizard of Oz.
Before the Wizard became the one we saw in the 1939 film he was a circus wrangler transported by a tornado to the mysterious world of Oz where he gets mistaken for a know-it-all. No word on when filming will begin, although they will have to work around The Avengers and Sherlock Holmes 2 which Downey is attached to.
Oz will be Raimi’s first time behind the camera after Drag Me to Hell in 2009, and after Spider-Man 4 failed to get off the ground earlier this year. Disney will be hoping to re-create the same billion dollar hit it recently achieved with Alice in Wonderland, so it will probably be in 3D.
