With MGM officially out of bankruptcy it was only a matter of time before we got something official on Bond 23, and today is that day. MGM has released a statement confirming Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Jarhead) as director, and the company has set a November 9th 2012 release date for the return of 007.
Here’s MGM’s statement:
LOS ANGELES, CA (JANUARY 11, 2011) – Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., today announced that the 23rd James Bond film will commence production in late 2011 for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.
Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.
Last year Peter Morgan, writer of The Queen, Frost/Nixon and The Last King of Scotland, was hired to work on the script for Bond 23 alongside regular James Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. As the film starts back up again there was a chance their script could be dusted off for a polish, and it seems it has with John Logan (The Aviator) receiving a writing credit.
No story details are known at the moment, but we’ll probably find out more over the next few months as casting gets under-way. First up: Bond girl and baddie!
