Rooney Mara has beaten the likes of Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Carey Mulligan, Emily Browning, Ellen Page, and a bunch of other upcoming young actresses to land the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Director David Fincher has been testing actresses over the past few weeks and eventually decided upon relative unknown Rooney Mara, according to Deadline.
Rooney will be joining Daniel Craig, Robin Wright and Stellan Skarsgard in the film which revolves around a young woman named Lisbeth Salander, a brilliant computer hacker who has a photographic memory, and a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) who recruits her to find a woman who has been missing for 40 years.
Filming will begin later this year in Sweden and Rooney Mara’s contract includes options for The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, the second and third books in the Millennium Trilogy by the late author Stieg Larsson.
Rooney Mara will be seen in Fincher’s The Social Network in October and appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street earlier this year. What do you think of Fincher’s choice?
