Johnny Depp is known for keeping his directors close, and now it looks like he’s found another one to make movies with. Deadline reports that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall has signed on to direct the actor in a remake of The Thin Man.
The original movie released in 1934 was based on a Dashiell Hammett novel, which centered on former private detective-turned-professional drunkard Nick Charles, his lovely socialite wife Nora and their dog Asta. The book saw the couple investigate a murder involving an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family.
No word on when production will begin, but it will most likely be before Pirates of the Caribbean 5 happens. Writer Terry Rossio recently handed his script into Disney, but Depp said he wants to “hold off for a bit” to keep the movies “special”. Marshall is interested in returning, so that will probably move forward after The Thin Man.
Johnny Depp is currently filming Dark Shadows with Tim Burton and will be re-teaming with Gore Verbinski later this year for The Lone Ranger.
