Deadline has reported that Sony has begun negotiating with Rob Letterman, director of Monsters vs. Aliens and Gulliver’s Travels, to helm the upcoming film adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series. The Goosebumps books were one of the most popular children’s series of the nineties and featured over fifty spooky and humorous tales, and even spawned a television series.
This is particularly good news considering how pessimistic Stine was about the film just a few months ago. A Goosebumps movie has been in development since 2008, but we’ve seen very little movement on the project so far. Up till now the only real development we’ve seen has been bringing on Darren Lemeke, writer of Jack the Giant Slayer and Shrek Forever After, to pen the script.
Hopefully with a director on board things will begin to move forward at a quicker pace, however Letterman still has not officially signed on yet. Neal H. Moritz is acting as the film’s producer and there is still no word on a planned release date.
