An intriguing murder mystery set in Victorian London with a bunch of British actors you’ll recognize, this is the first official trailer for The Limehouse Golem.
“A series of murders has shaken the community to the point where people believe that only a legendary creature from dark times – the mythical so-called Golem – must be responsible.”
Based on its title I did not expect much going into this trailer and what a nice surprise it ended up being. The Limehouse Golem currently holds a 57% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on just 7 counted reviews. While that number might not seem like a lot, the film does have a very good 7.8 out of 10 average rating from those 7 reviews, so expect that 57% approval rating to rise as more critics will see it in the coming weeks. I say keep this one on your radar.
Alan Rickman was initially supposed to play Bill Nighy’s part in The Limehouse Golem but unfortunately his deteriorating health forced him to leave the project before the start of production. The film is dedicated to Alan Rickman who passed away early last year.
The Limehouse Golem was directed by Juan Carlos Medina and written by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service), based on the novel ‘Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem’. Starring in the thriller are Bill Nighy, Olivia Cooke, Douglas Booth, Eddie Marsan and more.
After premiering at a bunch of festivals starting with the Toronto International Film Festival last year in September, The Limehouse Golem will finally hit theaters September 1st in the UK and September 8th in the US.
