Apparently the Aliens sequel that Neill Blomkamp was attached to direct is unfortunately dead, at least that’s what Ridley Scott said in an interview and I’m pretty sure he’s someone who’d know a thing or two about that
This movie, which was pretty early in development, would have followed the events of James Cameron’s 1986 classic Aliens, with Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Hicks coming back, obviously ignoring Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. Initially the idea was that Ridley Scott would be making his Prometheus sequel first, now Alien: Covenant, and after that Fox would move forward with Blomkamp’s Alien 5. When French website Allocine asked Ridley Scott about the state of the project he told them it’s done, that it would not see the light of day. Also the movie never got that far, they didn’t have a script, only a 10 page pitch that evolved from an idea. Fox just flat out dropped it.
I remember a few years back we even saw some concept art from this film, and it all looked very cool. I would have liked to see an Alien movie from the director of District 9, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Maybe it was Chappie bombing that scared Fox, maybe it was something else, we’ll never really know. Hopefully Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, out in just a few days, is good since that’s the only Alien movie left, for now.
