Quentin Tarantino hints at a third “historical” film

Django Unchained 27 ImageAfter a long and prosperous career of releasing movies set in the modern era Quinton Tarantino changed gears setting his most recent two films in the past. In 2009 he released Inglorious Basterds, which was set in World War II, and last year’s Django Unchained was set in the old west. While speaking to reporters after taking home the award for best original screenplay at the BAFTAs he implied that he’s going to make the historical movies a “trilogy.”

More specifically Tarantino said:

“This [rewritten history theme] begs a trilogy, it begs to have a third movie on this theme. I haven’t decided about what yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised…” Any hardcore Tarantino fan can tell you that a majority of his movies take place within the same universe and it’s been interesting to see the alternate history that he’s taken us through so far, and it would be pretty fun to see him delve even deeper into the past.

Of course this trilogy, while set in the same universe, won’t be a trilogy in terms of storyline, but in terms of theme. Other filmmakers have experimented with thematic trilogies, including Krzysztof Kieslowski’s three colors trilogy (Red, White and Blue) and Steven Spielberg’s running man trilogy (A.I. Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can.)

I for one can’t wait to see what time period Tarantino will take us to next.
