Prometheus has its share of detractors who have complained about the lack of answers the film provided, complaints Prometheus’ writer Damon Lindelof has heard before as a head writer for Lost. Just as Lost had many of its mysteries answered in an extra feature on the DVD, the Prometheus DVD may shed some new light on its unanswered questions.
Prometheus has taken advantage of viral marketing, but while most films end their viral campaigns after the release date, Prometheus took things even further. The first clue that the DVD may hold more secrets was after the film’s credits. Weyland Corp’s fictional logo appeared above the phrase “Building better world since 10.11.12,” and the link weylandindustries.com/timeline.
October 11th has been revealed as the DVD release date, but that’s just the beginning. The viral clues associated with 10.11.12 suggest that there are plenty of things the DVD has to tell us. An early clue to surface was a video of a young Peter Weyland quoting Thus Spake Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche. It didn’t take long for Prometheus fans to find the website whatis101112.com which features all kinds of strange things including a “recorded” phone call to Weyland’s Corp. and numerous bizarre videos.
The most noticeable thing on whatis101112.com is a large floating copy of Thus Spake Zarathustra featuring the quote “What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.” This might suggest that the DVD is not an end to Prometheus, but a bridge to the already confirmed sequel.
