Last week Disney moved John Carter of Mars up from June 8th 2012 to March 9th 2012, which just so happened to be the date 20th Century Fox recently set for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
Both are sci-fi movies set in space and neither would benefit from being set against the other, so in response Fox today moved Prometheus into Carter‘s old spot of June 8th 2012.
John Carter of Mars is directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) and follows Civil War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) who is transplanted to Mars. Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3), Mark Strong, Dominic West, James Purefoy and Samantha Morton also star, along with Willem Dafoe who plays a 10-foot alien with four arms called Tars Tarkas.
Prometheus started out as an Alien prequel but evolved into a “new, grand mythology and universe” with an original story. Ridley Scott says the movie will contain “Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.” Noomi Rapace is set to play scientist Elizabeth Shaw.
