Prometheus and Blade Runner in possible crossover

PROMETHEUS Image The ad campaign for the DVD/Blu-ray release of Prometheus promised to answer all kinds of questions, but it may give us more info than we bargained for. It now seems that Prometheus actually puts the Ridley Scott sci-fi classics Blade Runner and Alien into one “shared universe.”

An Easter egg has surface from the upcoming steelbook edition of the U.K. Blu-ray showing a message written by Peter Weyland discussing his deceased mentor, who should seem very familiar to anyone who has seen Blade Runner.

Here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

It’s clear that the mentor he is speaking of is none other than Eldon Tyrell, of Tyrell Corp. from Blade Runner. It would definitely appear that we are dealing with a “shared universe” much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The announced sequel to Blade Runner also seems to fit well into this whole puzzle. Blade Runner is set in 2019, which puts Weyland at 29 at the time of his mentor’s death. Guy Pierces’ casting left many scratching their heads, as he never appeared in Prometheus without extensive age make-up. He did, however, pop up in a lot of viral videos, set in 2023 without age make-up. This may be a hint that young Peter Weyland has a role, or at least a cameo, in the Blade Runner sequel.

It’s still not clear whether this Easter egg will be exclusive to the U.K. edition, but one thing is certain; we can expect a lot more surprises surrounding Prometheus in the coming days.

Don’t forget there’s talk in Prometheus about some event that happened around 2000 years ago that changed the Engineers’ view of the human race. Maybe Gladiator is in the shared universe too? ;)

Hah, I had a friend who joked that Legend was actually just Deckard’s dream, who knows?
