Producer talks Tomb Raider reboot

tomb raider 500x235Back in January we heard that Warner Bros were planning on rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise, with the only information released being “it will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain”. Now Terminator Salvation producer Dan Lin has confirmed to About.com (via Kotaku) that the new Lara Croft film will be an origin story, however unlike the previous films it will have a strong focus on character development.

“We’re rebooting Lara Croft…It’s a great origin story that we’re going to tell, a very character-oriented, I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies…It’s not full-on action. I would say it’s like Terminator, it’s character driven action. For me, the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character.”

So I guess that rules Angelina Jolie out (however I doubt she would have returned anyway). Who would you like to see play Lara Croft? Personally I want an unknown, but i’m sure some will want Megan Fox (who has been described as Angelina Jolie 2.0).

    i liked almost all the games and the two movies, but the first was better than the second. i am glad they are going with character driven action as aposed to mindless action like some films i will not mention. i would kinda like to see angelina come back but it wont happen, megan fox would be a good choice but they should go with the first choice they had for lara when they were making the first movie…Rhona Mitra!!!! but it depends on how far they go back with the reboot

    I don't think Megan Fox can properly do a British accent so that kind of lives her out.

    There's a lot of potential for this female Indiana Jones, I just hope they don't mess her up again.

    Megan Fox cant pull of a British accent plus everytime i see her on screen she reminds me of a pornstar. the best person who should play Lara Croft is Kate Beckinsale or Rhona Mitra. Rhona Mitra is the best choice cause she can act, British and she used to model as Lara Croft.

    Rhona Mitra is PERFECT for Laura, and she is actually British, Although I'd loved to see Angelina come back 1. Because she is a great actress and is great at action and 2. because I hate it when Actors get changed for sequels like Rhodie for Iron Man 2!
