Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides recently wrapped filming and is currently in post-production, but it may not be the last time cameras roll on the franchise. According to Hit Fix “Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot “Pirates 5″ and “Pirates 6.”
The franchise is no stranger to back-to-back sequels as Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End were shot together and released a year apart, and it looks like Disney are hoping to do the same again. Should On Stranger Tides reach great heights at the box office like the previous films (which it probably will do) Disney would have every incentive to carry on the franchise. Preferably with Johnny Depp returning yet again as Captain Jack.
Director Rob Marshall is currently experiencing his first bit of action on the high seas, and he may decide he wants more just like Gore Verbinski did a few years ago (although he was apparently exhausted by the end of it all). There’s a wealth of stories that can be told with this franchise, and as long as they keep the quality and entertainment high I don’t see why it can’t continue, and it’s not as though Depp is at risk of being typecast.
What do you think about Disney potentially shooting Pirates 5 and 6? Do you want them to continue, or should they have stopped after At World’s End?
