First Showing has revealed that Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) will be returning to the director’s chair for Resident Evil 6 with the franchise’s star, Milla Jovovich, also set to reprise her role as Alice.
Here’s the scoop:
Anderson plans to start shooting Resident Evil 6 this fall. The Mr X visual effects house, who was responsible for all the movie magic you saw in the most recent sequel along with the other sequels Apocalypse and Afterlife, not to mention Anderson’s Three Musketeers will return to do VFX work on the new project. Though the film wasn’t exactly a runaway hit, the film pulled in just over $221 million worldwide, and that’s enough for a sequel. Anderson has said that he had plans for a new trilogy that began following Afterlife, so maybe this will be the last Resident Evil movie? We’ll have to wait and see.
Next up for Paul W.S. Anderson is Pompeii 3D, which recently added Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) to its cast. Harris will star alongside Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) and Kit Harington (TV’s Game of Thrones), with filming due to begin very shortly.
Resident Evil 6 is scheduled for release on 12th September 2014 and if it really is the final instalment in the franchise, expect it to go out with a bang.
