Tulip Fever is a star-studded period drama that’s seen its share of delays and while it does have the smell of a troubled production, I still think it looks promising.
“An artist falls for a young married woman while he’s commissioned to paint her portrait during the Tulip mania of 17th century Amsterdam.”
Tulip Fever was filmed almost three years ago, footage from it was first shown at Cannes two years ago and let’s just say its release date has moved a bunch. I remember seeing a trailer for this a year ago, at the time sporting a July 2016 release. Look, sometimes it’s worth taking your time, making sure everything is right. At the same time too much tinkering can lead to an even worst product. I’m sure at some point Harvey Weinstein had big plans for this movie, I mean just look at the cast and remember this was filmed in 2014 and it’s still not out yet. I really hope it’s good, I really do, but there’s a very good chance it’s mediocre at best.
Tulip Fever was directed by Justin Chadwick and written by Tom Stoppard based on the novel ‘Tulip Fever’ by Deborah Moggach. Starring in the drama are Alicia Vikander, Christoph Waltz, Dane DeHaan, Zach Galifianakis, Judi Dench, Jack O’Connell and Cara Delevingne.
Tulip Fever is supposed to finally come out on August 25th in the US, very likely in select theaters.
