In news that will shock absolutely no one a fifth Paranormal Activity has been officially ordered for next Halloween. Along with Paranormal Activity 5, we will also be getting a Paranormal spin-off aimed at Latino fans.
While Paranormal Activity 4 saw a drop off in box office returns compared to the second and third installments, it still made many times it’s paper thin budget. More specifically it took in $29 million it’s opening weekend on just a $5 million budget.
While there is no word on a writer or director for Paranormal Activity 5, the spin-off is being directed by Christopher Landon, writer of Paranormal Activity 2, 3, and 4 as well as Disturbia. The spin-off, which was teased in a post credits scene of Paranormal 4, is set to open this spring. That’s awfully soon for a movie that doesn’t even have a title, but the Paranormal movies are done quickly and cheaply so the spin-off will be no different.
The Paranormal movies have become a Halloween tradition, with one released every year since 2009. Unlike the last “lets release a new one every Halloween” franchise, Saw, the Paranormal Activity movies can continue to be made for practically nothing. It seems as long as these movies continue to make a profit we will have to endure a new installment year after year.
