Paramount Sets Release Date for Transformers Spin-Off Bumblebee

July 31, 2017 - By Alex

Despite Transformers: The Last Knight underperforming at the box office this summer, Bumblebee is still happening and Paramount gave the spin-off a release date.

Bumblebee is set to open December 21st 2018, which also happens to be Aquaman‘s date. Not very smart of them, especially now that the series has lost so much steam. Also it’s good to remember all these December dates rely on the untitled Star Wars Han Solo movie keeping its May 2018 window, because as soon as that gets pushed to December (a very likely scenario) both Bumblebee and Aquaman will absolutely get out of the way. But let’s continue to pretend this spin-off will indeed come out December 21st 2018, what can we expect from it?

“The story is set in the year 1985, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

Charlie will be played by Hailee Steinfeld and apparently this time around Bumblebee is an actual VW Beetle instead of the Camaro from the Michael Bay movies. Maybe there’s a chance this one doesn’t suck, right? One can only hope. On top of that Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight is helming Bumblebee. It’s almost as if they’re trying really hard to get the series back on track. But seriously, this might very well be it, after so many years finally a good Transformers movie. I can’t believe they managed to turn me around. Oh and John Cena is in the movie too.
