So About That ‘Sims’ Movie

Since it was announced a movie based on The Sims was being made, we haven’t heard much about it, which to me was a good sign. However, producer John Davis recently spoke to Collider about how on earth they would go about making it.

“The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them.”

Sounds dreadful…

Will Ferrell Takes The Hint

Question: What do Kicking & Screaming, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro have in common?

Answer: They are all Will Ferrell movies that involve sports and involve him playing the same person.

Now finally Will Ferrell has taken the hint that people are getting tired of them, after Semi-Pro was a bit of a flop.

Talking to USA Today at a charity golf tournament, Ferrell pledged:

“I will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports. Yeah, I’m retired from sports-genre films. You know, I think I filled my quota,”

‘Bond, James Bond’ Not In Quantum of Solace

According to The Independent the well known catchphrase that Bond announces when meeting people for the first time, ‘Bond, James Bond’ will not be in Quantum of Solace.

“There was a ‘Bond, James Bond’ in the script,” said director Marc Foster. “There are several places where we shot it as well, but it never worked as we hoped. I just felt we should cut it out, and Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson [the film's producers] agreed, and Daniel [Craig, who plays Bond] agreed, too. It’s nice to be open-minded about the Bond formula. You can always go back to them later on.”

Oh, and ’shaken not stirred’ won’t be in either.

Emmy Rossum Talks Dragonball

Emmy Rossum spoke to MTV about her role as Bulma in the upcoming Dragonball movie. According to Rossum, fans should be pleasantly surprised with the way the property has been translated by James Wong into a live-action project.

“When I signed on to the project, I was a big fan of the anime and knew [Bulma] as the iconic blue, bobbed character and wanted to stay true to that — but we also wanted to make it realistic,” explained Rossum. “So in keeping with the director and what the studio really wanted, we adapted her look to be a little more realistic and human, and little bit more believable for contemporary day. She’s pretty bad-ass, but still quirky and fun, and kind of ridiculous in the way she is in the anime.”

That doesn’t mean the legions of “Dragonball” faithful aren’t far from her mind, though. Rossum said her first encounter with “Dragonball” was the Saturday morning cartoon, only to realize that “it’s really so much more than that — from the comic to [the cartoon] to the whole franchise and brand, so many people feel such a closeness to these characters.”

“So, it’s a little bit stressful to play a character that so many people hold close to their hearts,” she admitted, “but you just hope you do it justice and they like it.”

I’m still waiting on the first trailer to be released, which will be soon apparently. Then Dragonball fans can judge for themselves whether they expect to be pleasantly surprised.

Site Update: We Have A New Layout!

Good evening Filmonic readers,

Those of you who visit Filmonic regularly will notice that things look a bit different than they did before. Filmonic will be 1 year old this October, and I thought I would celebrate by giving the site a resdesign. A guy called Sam has been working on the design for a while, and the theme is now live, although I will be fixing things over the next few days.

If you notice something is out of place, looks odd or have complaints or praise then post it below. I will keep this post at the top of the site for a day or two so I can get feedback and so that people know of the change (if they don’t notice it instantly).

Let me know what you think via the comment box!

Frank Miller Talks The Spirit And Sin City 2

Today Frank Miller was in Rome presenting new scenes from The Spirit. He revealed a brand new trailer which showed some new scenes, including Eva Mendes’ naked butt and some action clips. BadTaste.it was there to give us the info, and you can read a detailed description of the footage shown by clicking here!

Frank Miller also spoke about his future projects, which I am sure many are glad to hear involves Sin City 2.

I cant’ talk about my projects, because I don’t believe a movie is real until I see the title on the screen. There are many things that can go wrong. But I can tell you that I’m very close to begin Sin City 2 with Robert Rodriguez. We have to arrange a few things and we’ll be back in action.

I know fans have been waiting for Sin City 2 for some time (well since Sin City came out 3 years ago), and now it seems things are in the works!

And to round off today’s Spirit news we have some new posters, which you can see by clicking here!

R.I.P Fantastic Four 3

When Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made less than the original, it was a sign that maybe Fantastic Four wasn’t the franchise Fox wanted it to be. We are nearly a year on and there has been no movement from Fox to complete a trilogy. The fact that Marvels future line-up doesn’t contain the word ‘Fantastic’ suggests that another film may not happen.

MTV News caught up with Michael Chiklis, who played The Thing in both films, and asked him if he’d heard anything about possibly reprising his role, to which the actor responded:

“No one’s really given it the kibosh to me, but the silence has been deafening. The fact that no one’s mentioned it or asked a question says that, more than likely, that’s not going to happen. I know that both of them were tremendously successful from a box office standpoint, but we’ve all moved on into other areas and other films.”

I guess it’s safe to say Fantastic Four 3 will not be happen. (Not that many people will miss it anyway)

Jude Law As Dr.Watson In Sherlock Holmes?

According to Variety, Jude law is in negotiations to join Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Strong in the Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. If these negotiations all go according to plan, Law will be playing Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick.

Law recently wrapped shooting Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, the movie that marks Heath Ledger’s last official role. However, apart from that Jude Law hasn’t been in anything that memorable recently. Maybe this role alongside Robert Downey Jr. will be what he needs to reassure people he is still acting.
