Anthony HopkinsEarlier we reported that Benicio Del Toro was unsure whether Anthony Hopkins would be involved with The Wolf Man, contracts still needed to be signed and things needed to be worked out. However, MTV have now confirmed that Anthony Hopkins will star alongside Del Toro in the remake. He will play Sir John Talbot, father to Del Toro’s Lawrence Talbot, the character who becomes afflicted with the werewolf curse. The film is expected to be release sometime in 2009.

Stills for upcoming sci-fi The Mutant Chronicles have appeared online. These are the first we have seen of the film, and they don’t look too bad, at least it has a good cast. The film has took a spear out of 300’s book and have used green/blue screen a great deal, which has reduced the cost of making, but alters the end result. I will not judge a film on stills alone, so I will wait for the trailer before I judge. Some stills can be seen below, and more over at Omelete

newspic2562.jpgGregory Noveck is the Senior VP of Creative Affairs for DC Comics, and VOICES FROM KRYPTON got the chance to speak to him. There has been a lot of confusion with Justice League and the Superman sequel, mainly because both films will include Superman himself. Brandon Routh who played Clark Kent in Superman Returns will not be back in the Justice League movie. The same goes for Christian Bale as Batman. Is the Man of Steel still in the works? Or will it be replaced with the Justice League movie?

Noveck says:

The reason that Justice League is powering forward first is because the script came in and it was phenomenal.”

“It (the Justice League script) is [really that good], and that very rarely happens in Hollywood on a movie of this scale, and when it does you have no choice but to say, “We’d better catch lightning in a bottle and go!” All of a sudden, six months later, who knows what’s going to happen? You want to hold on to those writers, you’ve got massive interest from directors, you land someone like George Miller, so you go. And in the middle of it all, you’ve got Bryan going off to make another movie, which was a passion project of his. When he comes back, we’ll dive right in to Man of Steel. We’re scripting and it’s going to happen. We’re not going to make it until the script is great, but we’ll get there one way or the other and it’s not going to take nine years.”

Wolverine will start filming at the beginning of November, less than a month away, so its about time we got some info about what’s happening with the film. Here are some updates for you:

Title
The official title for the X-Men spin-off will be X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It is believe that fellow spin-off Magneto will have a similar title.

Cast

Liev Schreiber is reportedly in final talks to take on the role of a younger version of nemesis William Stryker, played by Brian Cox in X2.

Australian actor Brendan Cowell went on Australian radio show Triple J and told the presenters that he was auditioning for a part in a major Hollywood film. He couldn’t say which but he did say he was auditioning for a mutant. You can listen to the interview here.

Filming – Queenstown and Central Otago over December and January

…a production office has already been set up in town to employ several locals and out-of-towners. The four- to six-week shoot could see 100 or more Queenstowners hired as set builders, grips, runners, drivers, caterers and the like. More than one set will be built in the Wakatipu but shooting will also take place in Central Otago, including Naseby.

A source says Queenstown was chosen not only for the scenery but because of the sizeable film community here – who mostly work on TV commercials – as well as the ready availability of accommodation, bars and restaurants.
