Guillermo del Toro’s giant robot/monster movie Pacifc Rim won’t be released until July 2013 and we have yet to see a trailer (look out for it with The Hobbit) but development is already under-way on Pacific Rim 2.
According to THR Travis Beacham, who wrote the treatment for the first film, has been hired by Legendary Pictures to start work on the sequel. Guillermo del Toro will co-write, but at this stage it’s unclear whether he’ll return to direct. It’s actually unclear whether there’ll actually be a Pacific Rim 2, but Legendary are preparing themselves in the event the first film does well.
Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day, and follows giant robots piloted by humans who are deployed to fight off gigantic monster invaders.
