The Gifted is Fox’s second X-Men show, the excellent Legion released earlier this year on FX being the first, only Bryan Singer is directing this one, at least the pilot he will.
“Two ordinary parents take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive.”
I don’t think this looks particularly great, maybe a bit too much Heroes in there, and I’m not talking about season 1 Heroes, oh no. And I bet this trailer, as is usually the case with network shows this early, is cut almost exclusively from the pilot, which like I said in the intro was directed by none other than X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse helmer Bryan Singer. I was honestly expecting a bit more from him and this show. I don’t know, maybe it’s the TV budget or maybe it’s just a mediocre trailer for what could end up being a pretty good show. Legion had a lot of style, by comparison The Gifted looks very by the numbers and that worries me. The fact it’s on network TV and not cable isn’t helping its case either.
Unlike Legion this show is supposed to tie much more into the greater X-Men cinematic universe, but don’t expect any big names from there showing up in The Gifted. Even though right now I might seem down on it, you know I’ll still check it out, at least for a few episodes, same as you probably.
The Gifted will air on Fox during the 2017-2018 television season (probably at some point in September) while Legion will be back for season 2 next year in February on FX.
