In an interview with Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan revealed the title of his next installment in the Batman franchise: The Dark Knight Rises. He also said that The Riddler will not be the villain. More info after the jump.
Also mentioned in the interview – the film will not be released in 3D, instead opting for the high definition and IMAX route that separated The Dark Knight from the rest of the cinematic landscape back in 2008. This is such a great call by the studio, allowing their most successful director the autonomy to make the movie he wants without interference just to make an extra dollar at the box office. Warner Bros. knows that it will make some serious bank without 3D, so they’d rather preserve the integrity of the franchise than capitalize on a new trend.
As for the villain, Nolan stayed true to form and didn’t offer much information. “It won’t be the Riddler,” he said. “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones.” The director previously removed Mr. Freeze from the list of possible contenders, so there’s two down but a seemingly endless list of others from Batman’s Rouges Gallery that could easily fit into Nolan’s realistic vision of Gotham.
Expect to hear more about the casting and characters in the coming days, and Hero Complex is supposed to be releasing more information later in the day about Nolan’s decision to avoid 3D, so keep your eyes peeled for an update (or new post entirely) right here about that.
What do you think about the new title, The Dark Knight Rises? Does the Riddler not being involved alter your expectations for this movie?
