Speculation of 20th Century Fox moving forward with a Night at the Museum 3 have been circulating for a few years, but now it’s official. Night at the Museum 3 will be out on Christmas Day 2014 and both director Shawn Levy and star Ben Stiller will be back.
As far as the settings and secondary characters go we don’t have any official word. The first film took place in The Museum of Natural History in New York City and the sequel took place in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. so we are likely to see a new location, possibly an international one for number three. As for the characters, it would be safe to bet that some familiar faces will be returning, possibly including Robin Williams and Owen Wilson.
Seeing a new installment in this franchise is not much of a surprise considering that the first two have made close to a billion dollars combined internationally. Seeing a third Night at the Museum film isn’t exactly exciting, however it’s not as aggravating as something like the Smurfs getting two more sequels.
