Justin Lin decided against directing the next Fast and Furious movie, but Universal is keen to keep the director close and has given him the keys to the next Bourne movie. Tony Gilroy directed The Bourne Legacy which followed a new character called Aaron Cross, played by Jeremy Renner. It made $276 million worldwide back in 2012 which was enough for a sequel, but it’s the lowest grossing Bourne movie to date. Universal hopes the sequel will build upon this and getting an experienced action director such as Justin Lin is a good way to go about it.
According to Deadline Jeremy Renner will be back, and the studio is currently aiming for a 2015 release, although nothing is set in stone just yet. Filming should begin next year.
