This is one weird trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight that once again focuses on all the wrong things. I get that they wanted to say something, but I doubt this was the best way to do it.
I’m of the mind that movies, a visual medium first and foremost, should always strive to show instead of telling. Talking to the camera is very much the latter. Look, I’m all for female empowerment and coming from Transformers, a series that’s made a habit out of objectifying women, it’s definitely a step in the right direction. The problem is the way that message was delivered in this messy trailers comes off as ham-fisted at best and extremely stupid at worst. It kind of screams Paramount trying to tell us that Transformers is not just for boys, which is actually pretty insulting if you ask me. Maybe next time they’ll focus on showing a good movie instead. Also the film is called Transformers and once again they focus almost exclusively on the humans, arguably the series’ Achilles’ heel.
Look, I know I might sound hard on this, but that’s only because I really want these movies to be good. I’m still going to give The Last Knight a shot and hope for the best.
