Back in 2011 True Grit and Zero Dark Thirty producer Megan Ellison won an auction for the rights to the Terminator franchise, with the intention of making at least two more Terminator movies. Now Ellison is finally putting those rights to use as she’s assembled two writers to get started on a script for the new movie.
According to Deadline Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been hired. Kalogridis has previously written Shutter Island and Alexander, and helped Terminator director James Cameron on his Avatar screenplay. Lussier wrote and directed Drive Angry and a few other horror movies which aren’t held in high regard (White Noise: The Light being one).
No word on when production will begin or when we can expect the new Terminator movie to hit screens, but Arnold Schwarzenegger has previously expressed interest in returning. At one point there was talk of Fast Five director Justin Lin directing Arnie, but the appeal of directing a few more Fast and Furious movies was too great.
